something like that happened to me… although it wasn’t a friend I was writing about, it was a photographer.

I had tentatively agreed to work with a photographer although no contracts had been signed and no money exchanged.  I wrote on here about my anxiety choosing a photographer and gave links to her website as well as a couple others I was considering.  A day or 2 later I got a nasty email from the photographer saying how professional she was and she wouldn’t work with the likes of me bc someone had sent her a link to wedding bee where I’d written seeking advice.

I, too, tried to be very flattering and said really nice things about her. But I guess she couldn’t handle the criticism.  The difference is I listed her actual website so she was easy for the person to find I guess…

@MrsPaperFlowers:  Thats great that she was so understanding!  Was it the thread about the bra?  I read that and it was very nice! I can totally understand why she wouldn’t be upset, you said so many complimentary things.  It’s sad that someone was obviously trying to cause a rift between you two by sending her the info

I wonder how many bees read this and delete their pictures and posts or deactivate their accounts.

@MrsPaperFlowers:  Wow, how creepy. Was the google+ account a blank or fake one? Or an actual person neither of you knew who is stalkerly and vindictive?

@MrsPaperFlowers:  Hmmm… I bet it was a mutual friend who created a fake decoy account to send that.

@MrsPaperFlowers:  Not gonna lie, I know some ladies IRL who have been married in recent years, about to be married soon, or waiting, and I sometimes search the site when I’m bored to see if they’re Bees too.

But wow, I would never invade their privacy or make it my mission to try and spread drama with any information I find. (I haven’t found anyone else I know on the Bee, btw. Either I’m not good at looking for people, or I don’t care enough to be a real stalker.)

@feufighter:. Once something is on the internet then it is out there. No matter if you delete information or photos they can most often still be found and there are many many talented people out there that can find anything on the internet.

There is no privacy on the internet and even if a forum becomes a members only site that does not stop anyone from joining the site and having access to anything posted there. The only way to be 100% safe is to not be on the internet. As that probably isn;t possible in this day and age for most people it is up to the individual to be the gatekeeper of what they post online about themselves, their lives and their friends and family.

A great example is a male I went to university with. He was a computer geek and could do anything with computers. 8 years after university and having lived in 3 different countries and at about 8 different addresses and not being on the internet on forums etc (this was back in the olden days lol) he was able to track me down and call me on my unlisted number which was in my housemates name. Turns out he was working for a particular countries secret service and was looking at old uni photos and thought he would track me down. I asked him how long it took- it was only 3 hours and we were in entirely different countries.

Moral of the story if you post information online then someone with  1/10 of the skills and talent that my friend has can find you especially if they are motivated by a grudge.

@Treejewel19:  +1 !  I hate having to be really careful about what I say – especially when it comes to mentioning vendors I’d otherwise love to recommend – because of the evil Googlebot.

@MrsPaperFlowers:  I’m so sorry this happened to you, and I’m glad your friend wasn’t too hurt.  That’s absolutely frightening & horrifying… yikes!

Hence why I would never post pictures nor connect using my facebook. Internet be crazy. 10 years ago I was on another board, girl got fired after a member got upset at some of her comments. I knew the girl in RL because some of us met offline. Ever since then I refuse to give too much identifying info or link any RL info on forums. Its not worth the risk.
