@RoyalLime: What is a HSG? Isn’t it just a test to look at your tubes?
@RoyalLime: What is a HSG? Isn’t it just a test to look at your tubes?
@Birdee106: Yes Ma’am…. Hysterosalpingogram to be technical.
ETA: If there isn’t a block some have success because the Dye is known to “flush out” the tubes…. I have also heard it creates a good environment for swimmers 🙂
@RoyalLime: Okay cool, when the nurse calls me next week i’ll ask her about it. I want to take all the right precautions and do things the right way. If it’s smarter to do the HSG before clomid then I want to do that. I wish the doctor was in this week and I didn’t have to wait. So annoying!
@Birdee106: That is annoying! Sorry you have to deal with any of this. It took almost 2 months for me to get this appt.. I am hoping my HSG can be scheduled for my next cycle, as it can only be done CD 1-7.
Hi there – I have the same situation as yours – very regular cycles, all bloodwork came fine. DH’s SA came out well, too. We were trying for 15 months. Spoke to a RE and she put me on clomid at 50 mgs. It can help “strengthen” ovulation and it also can produce more than one egg so that there are two targets the sperm can get to instead of one. There is an increased chance of twins which is around 10% (I think). I actually had one mature follicle so only one egg the first go around. I was a little fearful b/c I don’t like taking pills but I was given the lowest dose and the RE said we’ll try it for 3 months. If no success we’d look at other options.
Anyway, we decided to also do an IUI in conjunction with clomid to increase our chances. I took Clomid for days 3-7. I also did an Ovidrel shot to stimulate ovulation and then we did the IUI on O day. I didn’t really have any side effects – it made me a little moody but I caught myself whenever that happened. It actually worked and I got a BFP that cycle, Unfortunately it ended up ectopic but that really has nothing to do with the meds. Good luck! Highly recommend the HSG so that you can all the basics out of the way.
@Birdee106: Oh hon, so sorry, but have you tried to go for a second opinion? The only reason why i say this is because a doctor shouldn’t put you on medication without getting all her facts. Have you had a pelvic ultrasound done. Im actually scheduled to get it done this Friday. I have not been TTC as long as you have. I m on this boat for only 5 cycles, but my doctor is already sending me to all this fertility testing, before jumping into any conclussions or putting me on any kind of medication. (Doctors usually wait for a year before sending you for this testing but i asked for it, thats why im going through this now).
I suggest to talk to her again and see what can be done before you start taking (maybe) unneceesary medication.
Good luck, girly, and wish you the best!!!!
@Birdee106: I agree with @Orchid38: on the HSG….I am also scheduled for this next week.
@MrsR4ever: I don’t know all the technical terms for things but last January she did the ultrasound where she stuck the thingy in me to look at my uterus. Said all looked great. They took blood for two months and check for ovulation and we did a SA and it was great. I kind of remember her saying that the next step would be to look at my tubes but I never went back for it. When she calls next week I plan on telling her that I want to do the HSG and any other test before getting on Clomid.
Thanks for the well wishes, my spirit is so down in the dumps right now.
I’m interested in teh replies too! This is my story exactly. We’ve done the tests – Darling Husband has good sperm, I’m ovulating, have regular cycles, and am otherwise healthy. After 12 months of trying we now fall into the “unexplained fertility” group. My doctor explained that studies show that people who fall into this category have a much smaller chance of conceiving naturally on their own – about 5% rather than 20%. Thus, the need for treatment. First step for me is the HSG, and then we will start clomid and IUI next cycle. My fears are that clomid will probably make me release multiple eggs, since I’m already ovulating on my own (at CD 16-19). I’m terrified of having twins. But I’m so sick of TTCing and I’m not getting any younger. So unless this last natural cycle is the winner, we’ll be going the same route.
@Birdee106: Oh good, so you did have the ultrasound and yes, the HSG is to look at your tubes. I hear its painful, so Im terrified, but then again some other girls here have said it doesn’t, i guess it depends.
Im sorry you feel down, I wish I could tell you something to make you feel better, but i know right now nothing can lift your spirit. Don’t give up sweet bee, Im with you and everyone else here is with you every step of the way. You are not alone.
@razzzzzz: Well good luck! I would love to have twins. It would be stressful but I think in the end I would love it!
@razzzzzz: FX for you and i hope all works out to the positive. Chin up!!! xoxo
@Birdee106: I am going to my RE Friday to pick up my first round of Clomid, so I’ll come back on here and update you with what they tell me to expect etc. 🙂
