@honeybee111:  At risk of sounding offensive, I really just don’t like corset backs. I feel like they cheapen the overall look of the dress. But that’s just me.

I prefer corset or I should say I always vision wedding gown in corset back, never thought of having zipper back.  My gown is corset back, I love the feminine look plus it gives me some flexibility (just in case I lose few more lbs, I would still fit into the gown)

Zipper and buttons just scream WEDDING DRESS to me, I think they make the dresses even prettier.

It’s crazy how this topic is so divided!  I’m firmly in the corset camp, my dress was a corset back, and I really am glad.  It was tied SO TIGHT and gave me a great shape, and I never once felt like I had to hike it up.  But then again, I also am not a huge fan of buttons, which came on a lot of the zippered dresses.

Also, I wasn’t as worried about weight fluctuation after purchasing it months and months before the wedding, which eased my mind quite a bit!  I didn’t need anything else to worry about.

The lady at the shop I bought it at had a special little knot she used, that looked pretty cool too.

I can’t wear most zip backs that start the zip above my ribs. I’m pretty near an hourglass shape, I need to be able to cinch in the waist a good deal and with formal wear, the alterations to fit a zipper would leave major seams that would be glaringly obvious. Thus, give me a corset back or custom made button and zip backs.

Granted, give me a chance and I’m going backless.

I chose a corset. New Wedding dresses can give a little during your Wedding day. Its down to the nature of material.  With a zip, you can’t do it up tighter during the day. With the corset, you can adjust it bigger/smaller depending on what you feel you need. Alterations are cheaper too x

Mine is a zipper with buttons. The bonus is a zipper really is easier to zip up and I love the buttons down the back. I just realized that since I’m not having a bridal party or any guests a corset would be impossible without help.

I’m the opposite of the majority on the board… in my opinion, zippers are found EVERYWHERE, so I don’t quite get the “corsets just cheapen the dress for me” thing.  Zippers.  Zippers everywhere.  No. NO. NO.

    Give me a corset back.

I preferred the feel of corset backs when I tried on dresses. There were a couple zip back dresses I tried on in my size and one corset back, and I just felt so much more secured into the corset gown. I kinda felt the urge to adjust the zip up gowns and knew I wouldn’t be as happy with it.

That said, zip backs with satin buttons are so gorgeous.

Corsetd remind me of 90s prom dresses. I can’t go there. Zipper with buttons for me.

I never had a preference for corset backs, until I saw this dress:

Corsets are better because they are more forgiving, you can get a custom fit. With a zipper, it is what it is!
