I had planned on doing my own hair and makeup, but I realized that a) I wanted a partial updo and there’s no way I could do that on my own, and b) I don’t know how to do enough makeup to look good in pictures.

@vorpalette:  +1. There is a big difference between doing nice make-up (which I can do), and doing awesome make-up that actually stands up to hours of photography, sweating, and lord knows what else. I don’t want to be fussed with my hair or my make-up so I am willing to pay to avoid thinking about it/doing any of it.

I am useless at trying to style hair, having someone do it for me will be money well spent. I can take care of the makeup myself, I have all the products I would want to use so don’t really need to buy anything extra.

I use to work the counter for Estee Lauder and Origins, I do my make up all the time and people always compliment me on it. So I’d want to take my make up in my own hands b/c control freak, I could even do my 4 girls, i think I’ll tell them I can do their eyes so they can all match lol.

Hair, no no clue on that. ๐Ÿ˜›

@MrsPanda99:  True story. I can make myself up pretty nicely every day and for a night out, but for 12+ hours of hugging, kissing, crying, sweating, laughing, dancing, etc.? No way.

I have heard so many stories of brides hating their makeup on their wedding day and having to rush to redo it.  I have never been a makeup expert and was debating on whether or not to do my own.  I went witha  friend to Bobbie Brown counter and had them do my make up.  Then i decided to buy some products and practice what I liked at home.

It turned out perfect!!!! and I spend less $ buying my own make up then I did hiring somebody to do it for me, pluss I get to keep my makeup ๐Ÿ™‚  I did have somebody do my hair, glad I didnt have to worry about that part, I had really long hair and needed sombody to curl it and make it looke great!

I was originally planning on hiring someone for both. I had a trial and although she did a pretty job, it looked soooo heavy in real life and I didn’t like the airbrush makeup. I’m considering doing my own makeup now. I bought some more good products and I’ve been practicing… I’m pretty confident I can do it.

But hair? I fucking SUCK at doing hair. Not a chance I’d be DIYing that!

@Marper:  I was shocked at how expensive hair & makeup for me, three bridesmaids, and two moms is going to be, but I sprung for it anyway, for a few reasons:

    – I can put makeup on for everyday wear, but I don’t know the first thing about doing makeup that will last all day and look good in photos. I also don’t have enough interest (or the time) to learn these techniques in order to do my own makeup. Hair is the same story, but worse. I can blow dry, flat iron, and curl my hair and put it in a ponytail. That’s pretty much where my expertise ends. So…doing my own hair and makeup would have been tough for me.

    – I’m not picky about the hair/makeup my maids wear, but I didn’t feel right telling them they were on their own to figure it out or pay for their own services. After all, they’re buying their own dresses and shoes, and two of the three are flying in from 2,000 miles away to stand up in my wedding. Hair/makeup is kind of the least I can do.

    – My mom’s hair/makeup skills are about the same as mine – good for everyday, but not so much for formal – so I wanted to provide the service for her as well. My Future Mother-In-Law can handle doing her hair, but she wanted professional makeup for the photos.

After tip, hair/makeup (including trial run for me) will cost close to $1,000, but I think it will be worth it. If nothing else, I think it will be nice to have that time together my BMs and it’s just relaxing to have someone do your hair and makeup. It’s like a mini facial massage. ๐Ÿ™‚

I got my hair done and I am so glad I did.

I did my own makeup and I’m also glad I did.

I hired someone because I knew they could do a better job at hair and makeup that would last all day and look amazing in photos.

I can do my own makeup perfectly fine but I don’t think it will look as good in photos.

I’ve had my trial and she did mine for my boudoir photos, she’s amazing and does a fantastic job.

Just find someone who is good and has great reviews!
