So, I’ve been reading about how it can sometimes be cheaper to buy linens than rent them and I have a question about that. If you have your own linens and I was doing a backyard wedding do I set the linens up or do you think I could pay the catering company to do that for me and set the table etc. ?
Any advice/experience or options is most welcome and appreciated!!!

I rented, and nobody set them up for us. Most of our wedding party came early and helped set up, so they did the tables. However, I have heard of caterers doing the set-up as well.

Never assume anything when it comes to your vendors – so I would flat out ask them if they would put them out. If they say no, you should designate a person to put them on the tables before the caterers arrive.

@AnnieAAA: Good advice. Most caterers will do it- some will charge extra to make up for the profit they are losing on the linen rental.

I agree. Discuss this with your caterer before assuming. Some of our caterers told us that they would do it as part of the set up fee that came with using their coordinator. Some of us told us that we would have to do it before they came in. If you are using a DOC or a venue coordinator, ask them first as they may be willing to do it. If not, ask the groom or groomsmen who may have the most flexible schedule in the wedding party. Also, dont forget that unless the caterer agrees to clean them up, you will be responsible for taking down the linens as well after the wedding (which you obviously wont want to do after a night of partying!)
