My honeymoon starts in a week!  We are camping on the NY side.  Five days, planning on one day in downtown Buffalo (Anchor Bar wings), one day doing NY wineries, one day ON wineries, one day the falls, cave of the winds, and maid of the mist, and one day just whatever.

We were planning on the butterfly conservatory and the botanical gardens.  Thanks for the tips!

@nyscpa2be:

Just wanted to let you know I went to Niagara falls about a month ago. I’m from Canada, but we took a trip across to Buffalo for the day. We had heard about the Anchor Bar for Wings so we went for dinner.  Honestly…its a dive. Dark, dirty and not the amazing wings I had heard. Just a heads up!

I’m not sure if they still do it, but when I was a kid my parents opted for the helicopter ride over the falls instead of the boat ride, it was the most awesome experience! We still talk about it!!!

There is a combo pass you can buy. It includes Maid of the Mist, Behind the Falls, the rapids walkway, a movie (360 degree view with mist lol) and the shuttlebus as well as discount/2 for tickets for the butterfly conservatory and a few other things. FH and I did the whole thing a couple years ago and had so much fun.

As for hotels, it depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. We had a room where the whole side wall was glass and fallsview side…there was also a whirlpool tub with automatic blinds that could be raised and lowered between the bathroom and the rest of the room…and a king sized bed that was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in (at home or hotel)! It was also located close to the casino (not a big deal to us but to some)and the falls itself. I would definitely go back but it was $$$$.

I am not honeymooning there, but SO and I went to Niagara Falls almost 2 years ago (July 2010) for our 1 year anniversary for almost a week (Sun-Thurs).  Took the train down there, loved it!

Definitely recommend the combo pack for anyone going there, we paid $35 (CAA memberships, but you can get them anywhere), and not only got the main attractions plus a few days aboard the shuttle, but they also gave us a lot of coupons to use for other attractions (Laura Secord House, Butterfly Conservatory, Whirlpool Aerocar, etc.).

We stayed on Clifton Hill, so within walking distance of everything.  On our actual 1 year, we did dinner at the Keg Fallsview, overlooking the falls. I’d recommend that too, as well as the Rainbow Room.  Also loved the Rainforest Cafe (where we had lunch), and the Hard Rock Cafe too.

@nyscpa2be:  Make sure you go to Caroline cCellars when you do the ON wineries. I live in Buffalo, so I’ve been to the wineries quite a few times, and that one is one of the more reasonably priced, and my favorite.

Also anyone doing the wineries, make sure that you try ice wine if you never have. It is AMAZING!
