One of my good friends was talking about how she did not think anyone would be giving her a wedding shower and I felt bad, so I offered to do one for her! I know my aunt will be throwing me one later on in the year and she even offered to throw me one as well. I am super excited about it! Problem is.. I have never thrown any type of shower before so I don’t know where to start. What are some of your awesome ideas for wedding showers. Any fun games you have played at other ones, or anything would help!

@FutureMrsBess: I always go off of a theme first and that helps to come up with games. Theres tons of ideas online. depending on the guests some women hate those games too so beware of that. What kinds of things does she like? Colors? etc. this will help to come up with something. also, of course, pinterest!

Be careful with Pinterest as it “ups the ante.” I agree with the PP, often, it is easier to go with a theme. I’ve only thown a few showers, but you have some food, some decorations, a few games with some prizes, and you are good to go!

i asked the future bride and she said she figured the theme should just be rustic becuase her wedding is rustic. does it have to be the same theme as the wedding? also i know she definetly wants to play games because i asked her becuase i already know some people hate them! i plan on getting a cake, and doing prizes for the games.

It does not necessarily have to be the same theme! I would not expect it to be the same theme for mine, but that being said, one of the showers I did was for a destination wedding, and I did go for the “beach, sandy theme”, but most of the people were not going to the wedding.
I ended up getting a lot of my prizes at The Dollar Store. Things can add up quickly so if there is anybody that is willing to help, definitely have them help!
We played games like “Know the Bride, Know the Groom,” word scramble, and like one other, so not too many that the people that don’t like to play get annoyed, but people that like to play games enjoyed it.

I wanted to add that showers, depending on how the bride is and who is invited, but is a great time to have a little fun! Maybe an 80’s theme, or “tea” theme, or BBQ, something that is a little crazy, but fun!

@FutureMrsBess: Does she have a favorite cartoon? TV Show? Color? Animal? Some of those could be considered to fall into a theme. Also, this link has some ideas:

You may also try a few other websites, like the previously mentioned Pinterest. Keep in mind it’s not about what’s trendy or expensive, it’s just about having fun and celebrating. 🙂

The showers I’ve been to have had things like “stock the bar” ot “Time of Day”. A Stock the Bar Shower, all the gifts should help them stock their bar, nice booze, wine, glasses, etc. For Time of Day, you are given a time and you buy something they could use during that time. So if you got noon, you would buy things they could use to make or eat lunch. If you got 9pm you might get them lingere. By The Way, I hate Time of Day showers. I always get weird times and never know what to get.
I didnt have a shower, but would have liked a Holiday Decoration theme. I would love to have gotten decorations for xmas or halloween.

I’m planning my BFF’s shower right now. We’re doing kind of a picture theme. We’re having guests bring a picture of them & the bride and having a little scrapbooking table set up with 6×6 papers so she’ll have a keepsake from the day. We’re also doing a “Guess The Bride” game where I’m printing pictures of lots of brides from movies, covering their faces & having people guess who they are (Name of actress= 1 point, name of movie= 1 point). Then we’re also putting lots of pictures of the bride up on a board and people have to guess how old she was in each.
Other common games:
- What’s in your purse? – Have a list of common and not-so-common items. Person with the most things on the list in their purse wins.
- Memory Game- You’ve probably played this at baby showers, but in this case, have a tray of kitchen or household items, give people some time to see it, then they have to write down what they remember.
- Bride Trivia- have questions about the bride (first concert, favorite teacher, age she went on her first date…)
Hope that helps!

i am thinking about buying mason jars and cute little straws for the rustic theme. Also I am thinking of buying a ruffle cake that I have seen on pinterest that I think are darling!
if anyone else has good game ideas that would be very apprecative
also if you have any input on the rustic theme for decorations that would be awesome as well.
