Personally, I wouldn’t think twice if I attended a reception that only had beer and wine. I would be completely fine with it. However, for my wedding, I 100% want liquor available. That’s mostly cultural though, as both my SO and I are Italian and our families love to drink Wink. I think that as long as there is alcohol available to your guests, you should be more than fine.

I don’t drink, so as a guest I wouldn’t care.  However, we are having a full open bar at our wedding because our guests do like to drink.  I know for a lot of my friends it’d be disappointing to have only beer and wine.

I think if your Fiance wants to have other liquor at the venue, you should look for one that will allow it.  Personally, I would be fine attending a wedding that only had beer/wine, but for our wedding we wanted a full variety of alcohol.

@FutureMrsBess: OMG I thought this post was about you thinking you or somene close has an alcohol problem LOL. As it happens I voted for the 2nd option.

@FutureMrsBess:  I’d be happy with just beer and wine. You need to have some options though – definitely have both red and white wine, and have a few different beers.

I don’t really care about alcohol, but beer and wine should definitely be plenty. Having hard liquor, IMO, is going above what you “need” to have. 2 red wines, 2 white wines, and 3-4 beers is more than accommodating.

@FutureMrsBess:  Hmm it does sound like you’re in a sticky situation if your Fiance would not truly be happy with the decision. Have you looked at all of your venue options? I think that looking into different locations with your Fiance would be a good compromise. Who knows, you could find a venue that you like just as much as this one, but allows all liquor. Although just beer and wine is not at all a terrible situation, if your Fiance would be happier with a venue that allows liquor then it may be worth looking into a little further (if you havn’t already)!

we are only having beer and wine but i know a lot of my friends only drink hard A. i feel bad but 1. i cant afford it and 2. my venue doesnt allow it. they only offer beer and wine. i figure the die hards can bring a flask. plus i heard that when you do have hard A. people end up getting really drunk!

I probably wouldn’t even notice if it were just beer/wine/champagne.

@FutureMrsBess:  Hmm, so is Fiance disappointed because your guests are drinkers (given his bartender past)?  Since he just drinks beer and you only wine, you should be good to go with the beer and wine option.  And you don’t have to have a lot of different kinds…maybe moscato and a non-sweet white, with a red option for wine and maybe 2 or 3 beers…
