Your best bet would be to look up the cost of living calculator.

rosegoldgirl:  The standard of living in the Minneapolis area is pretty high.  If you live in the burbs you maybe can find somewhat of a decent place, on the combined salary.

rosegoldgirl:  yessss what PP said. You don’t want to live in Minneapolis honestly. There are a lot of beautiful suburbs. The COL is cheaper here then a lot of places that im familiar with anyway.

rosegoldgirl:  I live in St Paul and honestly we make diddly. But to afford a HOUSE we moved FROM the burbs (Burnsville!) to St Paul. If we had stayed in the burbs we would’ve only been able to afford a townhouse or condo and instead we got a nice, little house with a yard in a cute older neighborhood. Good luck and welcome! ? :o)

I’m not from the area, but my sister has lived down there for the last 8 years. She has lived in West St. Paul, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Eagan (again), St. Louis Park, and just bought a house in New Hope.

When she moved down there, she rented a townhome from a couple for awhile, before getting her own place within the first year. She’s lived in 2-bedrooms by herself, and with a roommate. But, I know she afforded her first Eagan 2-bed by herself just fine and was probably making what you said that gross would probably be.

Minneapolis is nice (I love to visit!), but some of the burbs (like other PPs have said) are just as nice, and will save you some money living there.

It’s doable to live in the burbs outside if Minneapolis. I wish you luck!
