I’m not that far along yet (7 weeks) but I’m thinking ahead. Where can I find cute, reasonable maternity clothes? Target is closing (tears), so that leaves… Walmart, maybe Old Navy? Otherwise there are “maternity stores” like Thyme but I’m pretty sure their prices aren’t too cheap. Are there any other “regular” clothing stores (like Old Navy) that also sell maternity clothes? I’m in the Toronto area (Scarborough) so if anyone has a local recommendation, that would be great!

I went to Thyme Maternity when I was about 9 weeks and bought a bunch of things on clearance! They had 70% off their clearance prices, plus if you spent $100, you got $50 off and then I got another 10% off for some reason I can’t remember. Anyway, I ended up getting 2 pairs of jeans, one pair of yoga pants, 3 shirts and a tank top for $43. Definitely go there and look in the clearance! It looks like they have that sale a lot!

My first though was Target (so sad its closing)! I would check Winners and Marshalls.

Commenting to follow…haven’t really gone shopping yet expect getting a belly band from Target but I did notice their maternity section sucked. Looking for other options too 🙂

I bought all my clothes from Thyme… they arent the cheapest but they have some amazing deals! Like PP said, they quite often give out coupons were if you spend $100 you get $50 off… theyve also allowed me to use those in conjunction with other deals like buy 2 get one free. I also love the style of clothes there, the fit and the customer service is amazing! I live in Edmonton and the girls really know what theyre talking about and are absolute sweethearts!

Winners sucks actually – I went to the one at Queen and Portland and they didn’t have a maternity section. Old Navy is my go-to, even though the one at the Eaton Centre looks like a rummage sale. H&M has a small maternity section with cute stuff.
Also, you can now order maternity clothes from the Canadian Gap website!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I didn’t know Thyme had good sales – I’ll have to go check them out. I always figured as a specialty boutique, they’d have high prices and no sales!
There is an Old Navy close to me, so I’ll check that out too. I think there is a Winners and a Marshall’s not far as well. (I’m in a good location, I guess!)
For those who bought ahead: How did you know how big you’d be? Did you guess?

I bought a bunch of things at 9 weeks because the bloat was unreal. The lady at Thyme said that as long as you don’t gain more than 30lbs, you should be able to wear the clothes throughout your pregnancy. You just buy for the size you’re at now and they are meant to grow with you. For pants, they had me make sure that I could slide my arm down the side of one leg inside the pants while they were on to make sure they would stretch enough. They are so super comfy too! I haven’t been wearing the tops I got yet since it’s too cold for t-shirts. I bought the tops for the warmer weather and figured I could make due with the sweaters and long-sleeved shirts that I currently have until the weather warms up.

Thyme has a bump pad you can strap to your stomach that adds ~3 months to your current size, so you can estimate.
But the rubber band trick (google it) and a Bella Band have let me wear my regular pants 6 months in. I’m still wearing 80% of my wardrobe, the only thing I’ve really needed are bigger bras/bra extenders, and some longer tanks for layering. I do find maternity clothes a little marked up, so I’m planning on buying some cute tunic tops at a regular store.
Also, it almost seems intentional that a lot of maternity clothes aren’t good for nursing (high necks, etc.). It’s like they want you to buy new clothes to wear for 9 months, then come back for a whole new set for nursing afterwards!

I went to Old Navy and bought some cute things in the maternity section that were on clearance and saved tons of money! I bought around 7 tops and paid between $4.99-$6.99 each! Also I think H&M has a maternity section but I haven’t checked it out!

Check out the clearance racks at Thyme and Motherhood maternity, great deals! Otherwise I didn’t have much luck anywhere else. Old Navy maternity was great for things like lounge wear, tank tops and summer stuff (so the timing could be good for you there 🙂 ), and Old Navy wasn’t too expensive. Most stores dont’ carry much inventory so it was always hit or miss.
