So I have lost about 11 lbs in the past month. I tried on my wedding dress and it is already one size too big. I would like to lost another 15-20 lbs before my wedding (3.5 months). My question is, for those of you who are also losing weight for the big day, when are you getting your dress altered? Is 3 weeks before enough time you think?

The store I bought my dress at said 4-6 weeks. It is probably best to contact the seamstress you plan to go to and ask. Maybe book your first appointment ahead of time so you don’t get stuck.

i’m hoping to wait as long as possible. i’ve lost 25 pounds since i ordered my dress so i dont know how big it is going to be. but i’m hoping to lose another 20 pounds before the big day. i’m thinking/hoping i can go in a week before the wedding for the last fitting. but i do have a corset back so i have some wiggle room that others might not.

I’m going the Bride Wars route… “you don’t alter Vera, you alter yourself for Vera”. Hahaha. I bought a dress in a smaller size and shouldn’t have to get any alterations.

I went about 4 weeks before. It felt like cutting it close, but my second fitting was only 4 days after the first, and the dress was almost perfect, just minor tweaking needed. So bridal seamstresses can do quick work, but don’t leave it too late! And do book ahead. If they’re going to have any conflicts, best to learn about it sooner rather than later.
