I am getting married next year, and well, I have been starting to compile a wedding planning chart. We started to plan our wedding for a few months ago, but alot of things happened, changed and now we need to start fresh with everything, luckily I only paid a bit for the save the dates and three bridesmaids dresses that I found. I am supposed to have 4 bridesmaids, and can’t find the fourth dress anyways.. it’s from H&M for a valuable price for all of the dresses, 30 dollars for all three (My DIY Save-The-Date Cards I threw away, I did lose 50 dollars something I think all together, only money wasted on the wedding so far)
We have been starting to shop for liqour an alcohol, spirits can hold a while, red wine as well.
I have also been arrangng some of the theme and colour settings.
Can you bees perhaps help me ou with what to actually start with?

The first couple of things I did were to get the venue and book video and photography. I didn’t start getting the little decor stuff till recently. About a year out I started working on invites which I changed about 9 months out. I also locked down a dress and DJ a year out. The early stuff was the stuff that was most likely going to be solid. The later stuff was stuff I knew I might change my mind about. Little miss indecisive, that’s me!

I am planning to get married in September of 2012, and I just got engaged last month. I want to do as much planning and make as many purchases as I can this fall/winter. For example, I want to use Black Friday to my advantage and purchase Bridesmaid or Best Man gifts then. I also want to purchase decorations after all of this years fall stuff goes on sale in November/December.
Also, like you, I am planning on starting to purchase alcohol soon. Unfortunately, I have to wait until November, since I am underage right now. But our local liquor stores have a “Double-up for Buck” sale every so often, so I am hoping to take asvantage of that.

I got engaged last summer and right away Fiance and I wanted to make sure that we got all the big checks done and out of the way.
First we booked our venue, the photographer/videogrpher, DJ, transportation, and I got my dress already.
So now we can enjoy it a bit more, save for the payments, and we have time for all the little details and DIY.

I got engaged on August 3, 2010 and started planning right away. Thank goodness I did, the year will fly by! We first booked the venue so that we would know what type of money we would need to spend on decor, linens, etc. Also venues book years in advance so we wanted to make sure our date was availabe. Then we booked the caterer, photographer, and DJ. Now less than two months to go and the only thing I have to work on are “details”, favors, etc.
I created an excel spreadsheet and a folder for every contract/receipt we have so I could stay organized. Also wedding check off list were a great big help!
Good Luck…start planning!! lol

we got engaged April of 2010 and didn’t start to plan until October for our November 2011 wedding. We booked our venue and ceremony site a year in advance and then the photogrpaher 11 months in advance…etc.

Yeah, I’ve heard that too! I have been looking for dresses, but I think that’s the most difficult thing. We already booked the church and venue, so that’s really a relief that was booked, church was for free since my bf is a norwegian citizen and registered in the same city as the church. But then there are some other stuff to consider.. If you don’t hire a dj, what can I do to replace that? Like get a cd with just some music to play and replace it now and then?
We have a budget of 6-7000 dollars, and my bf’s mom is paying for the food and his dad is paying for the venue, our budget is to cover everything else. .. my mom can’t help out, and we (me and bf) insisted on paying everything ourselves, but since my dad died for a few months ago, they did want to help as much as they could. Me and mom paid alot of paperwork and funeral arrangements for my dad.. 🙁 I don’t even think we will use all of that money!! What is everyones budget?

MrsWeddingbliss sorry to hear of your father’s passing. Both of my parents have passed away and me and Fiance have paid for the entire wedding ourselves (with the exception of my wonderful siblings who contributed about $1000!) Our budget originally was $6500 but we will probably complete everything at right at $7k. We booked our honey moon at the beginning of the year (an all inclusive cruise, which saved us hundreds) I know the DJ personally so he gave us a great deal. Maybe try using an Ipod if you are interested in a DJ. they can hold more music and you acn “shuffle” your song list. We found a wonderful photographer on facebook that had great package deals that included our engagement pics. I also know the caterer personally that really looked out for us. Sign up for Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joann’s etc and take advantage of the weekly coupons. I also bought a lot of stuff last year after fall.
Its very do-able to stay within budget and have a beautiful wedding. I have friends that are alreay married that constantly say they wish they were cautious (budget wise) as we are and thought of some of the ideas we did.

@specialklove: My condolences to you and thanks, when dad passed away we knew he was better off iwhere he is now without pain, because he was struggling with liver cancer and liver transplant that was for nothing (basically) for almost 2 years- my bf asked for my hand to my mom and dad by phone (we were in Ireland, and they live in Sweden) the evening he died. This was in march. ..my biological dad died when I was 6. But my stepdad, or I always call him dad, was my real dad.. it’s very difficult living without him, as I can picture you having a hardtime sometimes too.. my heart goes out to you!!
I feel that 6-7000k is alot of money, and we are really trying to think more on the bright side, that we want to save the money for something else, like a small honeymoon or things like that. We hope that we can cut down on the budget using our network of friends, and far away relatives…
A lot of people tend to have a bigger budget, but as of now, we have discussed it and it feels like this is the right level right now, since we have food and venue, church catered for, we don’t have much to spend, except for my DIY decorating projects and invitations and the clothing, our photographers are for free, friends of my BF’s family. We are planning a trip to the Philippines too to visit my family next year or in 2013, so this is way of having both 🙂

MrsWeddingbliss thank you. 6k IS alot of money. I completely agree, put your money towards some thing else that you guys want to put it towards. I never intended to have a wedding as big as it is now, but it is what it is…lol. Absolutely ANY budget can make a wedding “your own” and beautiful. Good Luck with your planning sweetie! 🙂
