Today was my first day as a 7th grade teacher. I was interviewed yesterday morning, hired in the afternoon, and started today. Yikes!
We have been planning our wedding for 2 years. It’s such a shock that I received a full-time position. I will have only had my students for 2 weeks before we get married so I can’t take any time off. At all. In fact, I can’t even relax because I’ll be soooo busy lesson planning after school for these first few weeks. 🙁 As excited as I am to have this job, it’s so disappointing that I can’t relax and enjoy the decorating/getting ready aspects of the wedding.
How are you/have you coped with this situation?

I don’t have a job yet (mostly freelance) but Fiance just got a job and he has yet to ask them for time off and we get married in a little over 2 weeks! He keeps saying he hasn’t had time to ask, but I’m getting really nervous! If they don’t give him the time off he will have to quite because we can’t switch anything around this close to the wedding, everything is already paid for including the honeymoon. So we are just keeping our fingers crossed at this point…he started last week and he needs 10-11 days off.

@KT_Hime: he needs to tell them, like yesterday. It’s not worth losing a job over, but at the same time, if he waits til the last second, I wouldn’t blame them for denying him. Why didn’t he talk about it in the interview or when he was offered the position?

I was, but mostly I was just sad that we didn’t go on our honeymoon immediately. As a matter of fact, we’re not going until our 2-year anniversary, which is next year. It’s already booked (yay!) because now I know my Spring Break – I am also a teacher.
It’s not the best nor the worst thing, but I feel you. 🙂 Congratulations on your job and your upcoming marriage!
