I got my engagement makeup done at MAC and yes I did tip. They are providing you a service so I think it is customary.

Hmmm, I’ve gotten my makeup done at MAC before (for other occasions) and I never tipped.

I’ve also worked in cosmetics in a major department store (not MAC brand however) and have done makeup for brides/bridal party/prom goers and never expected a tip. I’ve had a few people try to tip me, but I never accepted as this is 1) my job and 2) not allowed (I’m pretty sure I signed something or was told by corporate that this is not allowed). I don’ t know if a MAC store would be any different from a department store, but in a department store, we could not accept tips. It was literally part of our jobs to do makeup. That’s why MAC (and other brands) ask that you purchase $xxx of makeup in exchange for your “consultation”.

On the other hand, if you hire a MAC artist to work on her/his own time (so NOT paid by the company), then you would tip them, like you would with another independent MUA you would hire for your wedding makeup.

I’ve gotten my makeup done by them a few times and I did not tip and did not feel that I had to.  I bought the requisite $50 dollars worth of products and they are already an employee, so I didn’t feel the need to tip.
