My husband may be getting stationed at Langley Field. We have been looking online at homes for sale as thiswill be his last duty station and where we plan to stay. I found one in Hampton that I LOVE. Is this a good area? Ive heard Newport News is not somewhere we would want to live, but I dont want to go over the bridge towards Norfolk because I assume traffic would be bad. Any help you can give me would be great! Ive been to the area once on vacation, so I dont really know anything about it. Thanks!

I don’t live there anymore, but I’m from the peninsula. There are areas of every town to avoid, so I wouldn’t place much stock in Hampton being much better than Newport News. My sister and grandparents live in Newport News, I was born there and my family lived there until I was 12.
I, personally, would recommend Yorktown or Tabb if you are looking for something safe and close to Langley. The schools are great, crime is low and housing is affordable. If you want to venture even further, my parents live in Gloucester now, and Williambsurg is very nice. And yes, avoid anything that has you traveling back and forth over that stupid bridge tunnel every day. Traffic is always ridiculous around there, and that’s coming from someone who lives in Chicago now.

@OldMrsMcDonald: ill have a look at places in yorktown and tabb. We can go a little ways out, but I dont want more than an hour commute. And definitely nothing accross the bridge!! Lol thank you for your help! =)

Yorktown is roughly 20-25 minutes from base, Tabb is 10-15. You’ll be fine either way!

I live in Yorktown. It’s a really nice area. I’m actually in the Tabb area, haha and Langley is just a few minutes up the road.

I would also recommend Yorktown over Hampton.
