I’m a PhD student (another Bee in immunology!) – I just wear gloves over my ring.  Although it’s a large ring, it is relatively flat on top and doesn’t have any protruding prongs.  If I have a particularly heavy benchwork day (such as flow cytometry staining, where I put gloves on and take them off over a dozen times), I will take the ring off.  I’m newly engaged, and the lab has been slow this summer, so I haven’t had may days like this yet.

Darling Husband got me a necklace and charm holder from Tiffany so I could slip my ring in it before I put on my gloves.

It depends on what kind of work you are doing. If you are in medicine it is not sterile to leave rings on underneath gloves for surgery etc, plus you risk popping a glove which could expose you to something.  I am in the veterinary field and like to wear my ring for seeing appointments etc, but when it comes to surgery, procedures, handling samples, working with dyes I have a clip necklace. I got it from https://www.etsy.com/shop/AloraLocks and am in love

I’m an RN. I wear only a plain band to work and leave my engagement ring at home. I’m not only worried about damage to my ring, but I have the potential to come into contact with nasty stuff, and my Engagement Ring has plenty of nooks and crannies…perfect for picking up nasties and bringing them home with me. With the plain band, I’m comfortable with wearing gloves, using hand sanitizer frequently, and washing my hands. And my patients know I’m a married woman 🙂
