  • poll: Is/did your 1.5-2 year engagement go fast or slow?

    Faster than I thought!

Some months were slow, but at the 12 month mark time was going faster

I really wish that our engagement was a bit shorter- too much time to plan

I wish our engagement was A LOT shorter- it is going/went so slow

    Other- please tell me

We got engaged feb/2011 and finally got married last month..so we had a little over 2 year engagement.. I was ok being engaged and wasn’t rushing to have a wedding, until my now husband suggested we go to a bridal show and that’s when the planning began.. we started planning may of 2012, but that year went by fast!

@CelticBeachBride:  that sounds so relaxing. We are thinking of a cruise. Maybe, Italy.

We’ve been engaged for 3 years now and aren’t getting married until next year. We are broke so we’ve been doing this very slowly. I am glad we are because we’ve needed to save, and have been buying things slowly that we can buy before we book everything. Also, LESS STRESS. I can plan and if I get stressed I can put it aside for another time. Pluss longer time to find awesome ideas and deals. I’ve come across sooo many things that i’ve ended up liking better than what I had in mind before. I don’t really see the rush in getting married , so I don’t mind it … but I wouldn’t go any longer than next year, because it’s time to try and start a family and to start saving for a house.

We’re a few weeks shy of 18 months. For us, it’s just right since we’re planning for an overseas wedding so it really helps with the long distance preps. At first it felt too long but now that it’s closer, time is feeling surprisingly fast.

My fiance and I are having a 18 month engagement, however we took the first 6 months and were just engaged…aboslutely nothing wedding was done or talked about, and let me tell you that was the best decision we ever made. Once we hit the one year mark we started planning and now we are 6 months away and i think where did the time go. If your planning a long engagement i would suggest not planning the entire time, i feel as though it would get tedious and you would nit pick at things. take some time to just enjoy being engaged! Its the most blissful time of your life!

@Soon2BD-CBee:  yes! I got so much info/pricing on venues, dj’s, photography, invitations, florist etc.. Any and everything you might need, it was there for you.. Also, some vendors gave you discounts if you booked with them a month or two after the bridal show.

I’ve been engaged since September and just hit my 1 year left mark yesterday! I booked my venue in March and the photographer in April i think. There were times where I didn’t even think about wedding planning at all for awhile. It is picking up a bit now though that it’s summer and since my mom and I are both teachers, we are really trying to get stuff taken care of now. I have finally started looking at dresses, have looked into prices for everything. It’s nice that I had so much time to plan things becaus I’m going to be doing a lot of it myself. It has given me time to find the best prices to make sure I’m not over spending beause I don’t have time to shop around.

19 month engagement, here, down to almost 3 months!  I am really happy with our time frame.  Sure, at the beginning people were like, “wow, that’s a long time…” but I can’t believe it’s almost here.

I feel like we had time to really enjoy our engagement, a stage of life we’ll never have agagin!  We’ve had plenty of time to plan, but I would caution against waiting too long–we still don’t have a DJ because we kept saying, “we have time!”  But overall, I’m thrilled with what we did.

We did 16 months for our engagement.  We booked the venue and the vendors(photographers/videographer/DJ) within the 1st 3 months, just to make sure we got exactly where we wanted, who we wanted, and the day we wanted.  It was nice to have all that time in between because I was able to shop here and there instead of everything all at once(or within a very short period of time).  The last 3 months all just flew right by, so I was glad that almost everything was already done at that point 🙂

23 months, and I wish we did 11.  At the time, we figured we were young, waiting was prudent, and it helped to head off a lot of the comments on how young we were.

Well, we’re 10 months in and married for all intents and purposes.  We’re fully committed, our finances are fully combined, hell, Fiance wears his ring so much that he couldn’t deal with taking it off when his mom came to visit.  It’s pretty hard for me to want a big wedding when we already have this amazing marriage.  But as my mom and Fiance have said, it’s not like you can just elope now, given that we’ve been telling everyone about our planning for the past 6 months.
