…. How much did it hurt (on a scale of 1 – 10! 10 being the hightest!?)
I’ve wanted to get it done since I was a teenager but I’m afraid it will hurt soooo much lol I’ve had a tattoo done, my nose is pierced but this seems really scarey lol I really want to get it done for the summer 🙂

I was 18 and it didn’t hurt…it was so quick! Don’t even remember feeling anything.

I got mine done on my 18th birthday, I didn’t even feel it and never had to deal with getting an infection or anything…I even had to ask if the guy was done yet!

CarterLove: I have mine done (it also was almost 10 years ago! ahh!) And tattoos So compaired to a tattoo lets say a tattoo is a 10 belly button was a 2-3 it was nothing! I think the clamp hurt more haha!

I was 18, I had someone hold my hand, and really it’s no worse than any other thing you’ve had done. I’d agree with wanabeabee, the clamp was the scariest part! If you can handle a tattoo you can handle a bb piercing.

Kings7911: MrsEmployed: wanabeabee: Wow. That is all great news! I hope it does not hurt! I was telling my husband that I am pretty sure if I can sit through a tattoo (it’s a small one, but still), I think I can handle the navel piercing lol

I got mine done at 15. Yes, the clamp hurts as much as the needle. I’d say it hurt pretty badly. Mine also got infected for months because I changed from a hoop to a barbell and it couldn’t drain properly. I was young and didn’t realize the potential consequences of not following the directions of the studio.
Be aware that these piercings take a long time to heal (6+ months, I think). I still have mine (I’m 27) btu I usually forget that it is there. I’ve thought about taking it out because I feel I am getting too “old” for it but that is just my own personal opinion. To each their own.

CarterLove: belly button…I was terrified and it was the least painful thing I’ve had done. I was 17 when it was done, remember thinking ‘oh that’s it’ – my ears hurt WAY more, my nipple was rediculously painful and the tattoo was somewhere right around the nipple on a pain scale.
Belly button – no big deal at all.

I got mine when I was 16 and it wasn’t especially painful, but definitely tender throughout the healing process. At 28, I wish I could go back in time and tell 16 year old me not to do it. I haven’t worn jewelery in it for about 5 years. And now that I’m pregnant, its especially annoying.

I was 19, didn’t hurt that bad, I’d say getting my nose pierced hurt more, and my tattoo was by far the most painful! The worst part was how sore the piercing was the few days after it was done. Sea salt soaks (literally mixing sea salt with warm water in a cup and suctioning it onto my stomach so the piercing was submerged) helped a lot, as did ibuprofen. 🙂

Lol it’s funny reading through these because I thought it hurt… A LOT. I would take a tattoo to piercing any day.
Not only did it hurt/throb when done, but for the next several days. I remember my boyfriend at the time accidentally touching my stomach and it hurt like hell. I can vividly remember the pain.
At this point, I don’t even wear a ring and it’s closed up. However, you can still see a hole. I now wish I didn’t do it because the hole won’t go away (maybe it will eventually…years down the road?).

CarterLove: Funny, I had the opposite experience of PPs. My tattoo hurt waaaay less than the belly piercing. And my belly piercing was much more painful than my ear piercings. The belly was a sharp, unbearable pain, but the pain only lasted an instant. That’s the good part — it might hurt but it’s over before you know it. So maybe a 7/8 on the pain scale when it’s done (a 10 to me would be where I vomit and black out from pain, which has happened to me from injuries), then maybe a 2 during recovery. Really it’s not a big deal at all. And two seconds of discomfort is worth it.
I got mine done at age 19 and I love it, but if I could do it over again I’d be more careful about who did the piercing and the positioning of the hole. Most people end up with a hole either too high or too low — it’s hard to get right. Mine is slightly too high (the artist intentionally did this so that dangly rings would hang right), it’s not actually in my navel and that bothers me, even though rings look fine. And those holes never go away so it can’t be fixed now!
So take your time and make sure you are 110% happy with the positioning before you’re pierced. Have the artist mark you and go look in a mirror. Also I agree that the belly piercings have harder aftercare, and can more easily become infected than ear/nose piercings or tattoos, so be sure you have the time to heal properly. Get it done now and you’ll be ready for summer!

I didn’t think it was too bad actually getting it pierced, maybe a 3? However, the aftermath and infections hurt a lot. I only had mine in for three years before taking it out. Two years later and the hole still hasn’t healed over. If I could go back in time I would not have pierced it because I hate the way it looks now.

It didn’t hurt at all. I thought he was just pinching the spot to pierce and then he said “ok all set.” The pinch was the piercing. So quick and no pain at all! I was 15 when I got it done. Never had any infections or problems with it.

MsJ2theZ: Thanks! I hope you’re right!
Stiletto13: I am concerned about infection as well. I obviously do not want that to happen! If I do get it done, I want the gem barbell. Thanks for sharing!
MsGinkgo: I hope it is the least painful thing for me too. OMG .. the nipples. You’re brave lol I think nipple piercings look so cool but I could never do it!
bbbria: I remember my nose was pretty painful but for only one second and that was it. It never got infected and I did not have any issues with it. So hopefully the belly button piercing goes just as smoothly. I read about those sea salt rinses. Very good to know. Thank you!!
Skittles131: Really? That is interesting. I know everyone handles pain differently. I hope this is not as bad as my tattoo lol Oh I am sure it will be tender for a while afterwards. I am not looking forward to that lol
valintine: That is great advice, thank you. I didn’t really think of that!
MrsBeck: Yikes! I hope mine doesn’t get infected!
