Haha – mine likes to mention that he DIDNT have to pay for it! But at the same time, he feels strongly about buying my wedding ring – and when I told him I’d seen a few at an antique store for under 200 bucks, he asked if I was sure I didn’t want something more expensive.

I know my brother is planning on giving his girlfriend my grandmother’s engagement ring at some point in the future. He’s really proud to tell people it’s a family ring. He just graduated from college, everyone knows he doesn’t have the money to be buying a 1+ carat diamond, and he doesn’t really care to convince anyone otherwise. If it weren’t for heirloom he’d probably wait and propose without a ring, or maybe a CZ.

Yeah my beloved had no issue with it. Like you it’s a ring from my side. I’ve never heard him tell people that it’s an heirloom but that’s because it’s usually the first thing I say when people comment on how pretty and unique it is, so he doesn’t have a chance/

Honestly if I didn’t have this ring I probably wouldn’t have gotten much of a sparkler. My love is exceptionally cheap.

@SpecialSundae:

I’d say thats awesome!!!  But guys have funny pride things… maybe just remind him that not having to pay for the rings means he can contribute that much more to you having the wedding of your dreams?  Mine has joked that my great-grandmother inadvertantly paid for our open bar 🙂

Not sure I don’t think so as he’s thankful as he would have had to finance a ring otherwise and he’s said as much.  He paid for all the repairs and resizing so in my eyes he did pay for it.

Plus it’s not about the ring, it’s size or how much he paid.  The ring is just a symbol it doesn’t quantify the size/amount of love and commitment 2 individuals share.
