I’ve gotten quite a few compliments from strangers and no negative remarks so far. Depending on which area/ country I’m in while wearing the ring, some would probably assume it’s “fake” because the carat size is a lot bigger than the average in that area. The first thing that people gawk at is usually the size of the diamond

Center stone is 4.67 with a total carat weight of 5.5 for the ring

I’ve had a couple people ask me if it was a diamond but mine is yellow after putting a gold cup on it and you just don’t really see colored diamonds. I took it to one jeweler who was helping to try on setting when I was trying to visualize a 3 stone ering and her coworker told me to be careful wearing it, the original lady butt in and said most people will think it’s fake anyways. I didnt mind because I would prefer people think it’s fake and not rob me. I wear it all the time but people who know diamonds can tell it’s real, the average person may dismiss it.

There has been people assume that I am well off because of the ring and while we are upper middle class my husband wouldn’t have spent that kind of money on a ring, we are lucky it is a family heirloom. Plus I only make like 36k/yr (not swimming in money) so it definitely stands out where I work, hubby is the breadwinner in the family but we are not flashy people; jeans and T-shirts kinda people.

Mine is a 5.8 carat brown diamond. I get asked what the stone is all the time. I live in the south so no one has said anything nasty to my face.

I don’t have a ring yet, but it will be in that range, colored and another gemstone. I understand that some may dismiss it anyway. That really isn’t even a concern for me, just like it would be the case if the ring I end up with is what some call “dainty”, not to say that it’s cute, but a code word for microscopic lol. I can’t control people’s thoughts anyway, so why care? If you have such a ring or any ring really, please honor your commitment by enjoying every bit of it. Even though I don’t comment, I am an avid bee reader and I have read SO MANY OPs feel ashamed of what they have, big, small,non-diamond,plain etc. They can’t enjoy theirs because of what people MIGHT think… Let’s be the generation that ends ring-shaming 😉

Your ring is one of my faves here! That YG basket that turns your diamond yellow is like magic!!

I dont have mine yet, it’s being made, and not quite as big at around 2.5 carats, but I think there are a lot of factors here. I think if people know you, and – just say you’re older and established in your career and they kind of see your lifestyle they’re less likely to ask because they’ll assume you can (or cannot) afford it. If they know your fiancé has a great career or wealthy family, they’ll assume it’s real. If you’re 22 and both students, they may ask because they’ll assume you couldnt afford it. If they’re strangers i would just say it’s fake for fear of being mugged. I dont expect anyone who knows us to ask me, we’re both over 40 and well off, and I don’t exactly look approachable so I doubt a stranger would ask.  I guess I cant imagine anyone being that rude… I so don’t care about what anyone else does/has, only myself, so I cant comprehend asking someone that, and I also could not care less what anyone else has, if they’re happy with it, what do I care. I don’t get why anyone would care so much about what someone else had

Occasionally. I can’t recall anyone asking me to my face if it’s real or not, but sometimes people blurt things like “holy crap, how big is that thing?”

I’m in my 40s, my SO and I are senior in our careers, etc, so I think people are more likely to assume it’s real.

I live in wine county in a rural small town. Mostly older retired ppl around and lots of tourists. I wear moissaite and sometimes my diamond ering ( small). I took my son to the orthopedic doctor and was wearing my 9mm moissy with two half eternity moissy bands. The tech told me how gorgeous and huge my rock is and then front office older lady (55+) made a comment i didnt care for much. ” that’s what marrying a scientist gets you”. I had just filled out all the forms which is where she got her info which led to that stupid comment.

My husband always did a science day presentation for the kids school, so the teachers and staff have always been well aware he is a scientist, so they have complemented my ring, or rings( i have 3 moissy’s) but thever questioned if its a diamond or not. Some just assume that my husband and i are super well off. Little do they do that i am the most frugal person in town. even my own 3 kids and husband feel that sometimes i am a little too frugal.

Heck, even with my 3 carat peach-pink morganite, people have asked me if it’s real. So I would assume they would have their doubts if it was clear (a diamond). All the more impressed they’d be when they find out it’s real I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

allthingsshiny01 :  man, oh man can I relate to your story! I only have a 8mm Moissy and once they find out my SO is an engineer they say things similar to what you just said, or “Good for you sweetie, he’s a keeper!” 😒

My center diamond is 3.3 carats (about 4.5 tcw). I haven’t yet been asked if it’s real, well to my face at least. We’re pretty young, but I think we carry ourselves well so strangers haven’t questioned it, and anyone who knows us knows it’s real!

I don’t really care what anyone thinks though, we got my ring because I love it and that’s all I care about!
