I have no advice, just wanted to say I totally sympathize. I have a keeshond and I have to vacuum or sweep at least every other day or we end up with huge balls of fur just rolling around on the floor. And when he blows his coat, it’s like the furpocalypse. Just insane!

We have a mixed breed dog (some sort of sheep dog) that sheds like crazy. We have the furminator and she still shed, just like yours. We ended up just shaving her (ourselves) every month or so. She is so SO much happier, because she’s not hot all the time. It looks a little funny, but I honestly don’t care what she looks like as long as she’s comfortable. Our vet actually suggested it and lets us come in and use her professional clippers. If you don’t care what your dog looks like, it’s worth a try!

@Take The Reins:  Ha! We’ve actually got a DNA test in the mail for our dog.  She’s a mix too.  And SHE slept around. Last year when we got her, 2.5 weeks later she gave birth to 6 puppies.  None looked like her and none looked like one another.

Good luck with the fur; it really sounds like you are doing everything right.

I wish there was a magic trick! I have two border collies. They are fed a raw diet, get brushed every other day, and go to the groomers once a month and they still shed like crazy. I actually hired a cleaning service to come once a week because if I don’t have all day Saturday to clean a light clean will not get us through the week.

Your dog is adorable, but her coat doesn’t look that bad. I would talk to a groomer and see what they can do.

@Take The Reins:  I have a heeler and he sheds constantly too. I’ve found that giving him fish oil tabs help it a little (which it sounds like you are already doing). The other thing we do is brush him with a furminator BEFORE he gets a bath (which is usually weekly because he stays busy and always stinks) which loosens up the hair it doesn’t pull out and we bathe him in oatmeal shampoo and then massage as deep into the skin as possible. Then we try to towel dry him as much as possible outside before he goes back in. It doesn’t elimate the hair shedding, but we have gone from vacuuming every day to every 2-3 days so it’s a plus in my book 🙂

Also, if you notice your dog is scratching a lot, he could have some allergies.

Unfortuantely, there is no magic trick.  We have a lab mix and she sheds like crazy.

We’ve just learned to embrace the hair as it is never going to go away.

I don’t think there is much you can do. I can spend hours window shopping for my dream vacuum, but so far, none of them make it any more fun to actually clean. My dog has ALL the fur, and it’s long and really light weight, so it travels far and plants itself in corners and under furniture. Instead of dust bunnies we have Noodle bunnies. (her name is Noodles) I’ve given up asking “how did that get THERE?” whenever I find her fur. It’s everywhere. Furminating is awesome and works for a day or two. But you’re already doing that.
