I love getting compliments on my tats. I don’t know why you’re getting dirty looks, unless you’ve been interrupting conversations or something? I didn’t think it was a social no-no. I always figured they were for others to admire as well.

I personally like getting complimented on my tattoos. I think as long as you keep it short and sweet its fine. A simple “I love your tattoo” or “beautiful work”. I’ve had people approach me and try to start a conversation about them, that I loathe. But I’m not one for small talk so that plays into it.

luebella123:  Haha. I like when people compliment my tattoo. But this past weekend some lady actually stroked it while she was admiring it (from a squatting position on the floor as it’s on my calf). So that was weird.

I agree with PPs, I like it when people compliment my tattoos, but not when they go off on a tangent about how they only like tattoos that are meaningful or about the tattoo they have been wantin to get since they were 18 etc.

I love tattoo compliments! It’s something you cared about enough to put it on your body forever, i would hope others found it beautiful too (plus it compliments my judgement skills haha). Maybe you just got a string of strange people?

Humans are just getting shittier at interacting with actual live human beings. Don’t take it personally and keep fighting the good fight!

Mines in Latin so people always ask me what it means which can be annoying at times when they probe for further questions about its meaning/why I chose it etc. Its personal to me and I’m not uncomfortable sharinf my whole life story with a stranger. Complimenting on a tattoo in a quick echange is totally cool! Like.. “nice tattoo” “thanks!”. I just hate having a full out conversation about it when I’m on the checkout line and can’t escape!

I’m pretty heavily tattooed and if I get compliments, I am appreciative and say thank you as I would with any other compliment. 🙂

Mine is only visible when in a bikini or if a shirt rides up, yes I have a small tattoo on my lower back. I don’t mind compliments. I hate when people call it a tramp stamp. I got it before that term and it’s not why I had it done. I don’t mind friends asking the meaning but it’s awkward when strangers do. Do you really want to know about my sensitive history? No. Don’t ask.

luebella123:  I am fine with a general compliment that is polite. Like PPs, I don’t want your life story or to hear about how you’ve always wanted a tattoo but you can’t get away with it for whatever reason…

Also, don’t touch me. I’ve had strangers come up and grab my arms or touch other spots and it makes me so uncomfortable and annoyed. I imagine it’s somewhat like pregnant women being harassed with random belly rubs all day. I’m not a touchy person, even with some family and friends so I definitely don’t want some rando making contact.
