In the long run, I want to be a professional event planner. In the short run, I’m my sister’s Maid/Matron of Honor and “wedding planner” (heavy on the quotes.) We’ve discussed it, and feel that on the big day, my Maid/Matron of Honor responsibilities need to take precedence. So, I’ve asked a good friend if she would be up to the task of being my sister’s Day Of Coordinator. This friend managed and planned her own wedding without a planner or coordinator, and is very organized and efficient. I know she’ll do an excellent job, but as neither of us has formal experience, I am wondering what tasks to designate to her.
This wedding is extremely DIY. The venue is the farm of a friend of the family, and this is the first wedding on the property. Our aunt is catering (she is a caterer by trade, so at least she will know what she’s doing!). We have friends DJ’ing and playing the ceremony music. The only “real” vendors we’ll need to coordinate with are the officiant and the rental company bringing the tent and tables/chairs.
So my question (finally) is what expectations do I need to set for our “DOC”? What duties are paramount, and which little ones do we need to be sure not to overlook?
