Have always worked full time outside the home while owning a dog. Only recommendation I have is that if you’re going to be away from the home most of the day, get a breed that is larger and naturally low energy. Smaller the dog – smaller the bladder, meaning they will need to go out more often. If you’re puppy training, you will have to deal with potential messes, but you can help curb these by crate training and removing water from them during the day. I’ve had mid-large breeds, and they have all been able to hold their bladders for a normal 8 hour day+ commute, and were happy to lounge around on days where I was too tired to get them outside for extra exercise. (For reference, I’ve had breeds like mixed labs and currently have a golden retriever).
