Has anyone ever been to a wedding at the Belle Isle Yacht Club…or ever been there at all? My FI’s grandparents have property there and have offered to host our wedding there (we are in Baltimore). What are your opinions on the area/venue? I’ve never seen it, but grew up in Lexington, SC. It would save us a TON of money to have our wedding down there, so we are seriously considering it.

@missyjane77: hey there! my grandma lives in Belle Isle so we looked at the Yacht Club when we went down to check out venues. it’s a gorgeous view out over the water! in terms of the building itself, it really depends on the type of wedding you want. it’s not huge (I think max capacity is around 200 or maybe less, and that is to use both floors of the building) but there is a gorgeous wraparound porch which I think would be great for cocktails, etc. the few downsides and why we ended up going with a different venue: you aren’t allowed to take any of the furniture out that is already there (couches, tables, etc.) – which is fine and you can arrange it to create lounge space, but it would sort of dictate your colors/style. also, they don’t have anything on site so you have to rent literally EVERYTHING – plates, silverware, glasswear, etc. etc. etc. for me, also planning from a distance, that seemed like a lot of added stress and micromanagement which would be hard when you aren’t right there, whereas the venue we went with has an onsite coordinator and provides all that type of thing. there are lots of other gorgeous venues in the area though, so even if you don’t go with belle isle, you still may be able to save some $$ by doing it in the area (that’s what we are doing – we are in NYC so its WAY cheaper down there!) hope this helps – PM me if you have any other questions!

Ugh, renting everything does not sound like fun. Don’t caterers usually have stuff like that though? Do you have any recommendations of other places I might could consider?
I grew up in SC and would love to go back there for our wedding.
