Probably a dumb question…
I’m realizing how expensive maternity pants are, particularly jeans, but so far (I’m only 10 weeks…) all my pants fit, if not slightly snugger. Since pants are getting snug, I’m not sure if I should get maternity pants or just get a belly band
Is it smart of just get a Belly Band or should I just buckle and get the maternity pants? Get both? wait until I can’t breathe in my pants anymore? If you brought a Bella Band what kind do you recommend? Did you get to wear your pants throughout your whole pregnancy or did you eventually have to fold and get maternity pants?

Get the maternity pants. Seriously. They are so much more comfortable and the more wear you get out of them, the less you will be bothered by how much they cost. By The Way, there are always great sales at Gap and Old Navy for maternity pants so you can usually find them at a discount online.

Maternity pants hands down. I tried the belly band, it’s just not comfortable! I have only two pair of maternity jeans and they are a God send. Old Navy and I got them for under $30 each!

I would just spring for the maternity pants. You’ll be more comfortable, and you’ll probably need them for at least a little while after the baby is born as well.

Agree with the PP. Maternity pants are so much more comfortable…I always joked I would wear them forever.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the belly band. They definitely won’t last you the entire pregnancy, they will start to roll down. You could always try one out for awhile, especially if you aren’t showing yet and your jeans fit, it’s under 20.00 I believe.
I went ahead and bought a pair of maternity jeans because although I have only gained about 4 lbs, it seems to have been all over and most of my jeans don’t fit in general, not just that I can’t button them. I got them on sale for 59.00 at pea in the pod. There are definitely a lot of other options as mentioned above I just havve already looked at all of those and none of them looked good on me. Last thing I need to feel is large AND like I look bad in my pants!

@AstoriaK: Thanks for the tip on Gap and Old Navy. I never look right in Old Navy pants though (thanks huge hips…) but maybe Gap would work well.
@MsJ2theZ: Yeah I’ve only gained maaaybe 2 lbs and nothing fits well in the waist and I definitely feel bigger. I had a friend who went through her entire pregnancy with the Bella Band but I had heard some mixed reviews too. Maybe its just smarter to buckle and get maternity jeans. I’d rather be comfy than miserable

Im almost 12 weeks and have started with the Bella Band and also these little fly extenders, I cant remember what theyre called. Im just not ready to splurge on Maternity pants yet! So far its worked great, I just undo my fly on my skinny jeans which I can do up but its just not comfy anymore, and put the band over top, it keeps my pants up and everything sucked in a little lol

I would go maternity pants…the bella band just rode up my back anytime I sat down. I bought some maternity leggings and jeans and I have never been more comfy! I just don’t see the point in squeezing into my old clothes – though I technically could 🙂

@the_newlymintedmrs-s17: I’m a big fan of maternity pants! I’m not even as far along as you and I’m loving mine. They are so comfortable!

@the_newlymintedmrs-s17: I LOVE my belly band, though I never found it comfortable with unbuttoned pants. I always felt like they may fall. I wear it almost everyday for support with my maternity pants, though.

I liked the IDEA of the belly band, but maybe it didn’t work so well with my body type, because so many women swear by them (my sister actually bought mine for me, saying it saved her wardrobe. how?!)
I tried it with pre-pregnancy jeans with a rubber band to extend the fly weeks, once my belly was softer and I’d gained a few pounds. But the band rolled up, or down and was more uncomfortable than too-small pantyhose. Boooo. I wore it for about 2 weeks at the end of my first trimester.
I much prefer maternity jeans!

@the_newlymintedmrs-s17: Maternity pants are the way to go. And you don’t have to spend a ton on pants honestly. There are stores like a PP suggested (Old Navy or Gap) that offer for less.
I love my maternity pants and honestly have no idea why I wore my other pants so long. They are comfy and supportive. Trust me, when you try them on you will get that “Ahh, omg I am never removing these bad boys again” feeling.

I have a belly band and I like it for a little extra support of my bump when I do high impact work outs but other than that I didn’t use it. I was too afraid of a wardrobe malfunction wearing my pants unbuttoned or unzipped. I didn’t find that wearing my pants unbuttoned got me all that much more room. At the early stages of my pregnancy I preferred under the belly mat pants, once i hit six months and actually had a bump I liked the over the belly maternity pants, I find them comfortable but I think over the belly or under the belly is personal preference. Sadly, I think all mat pants quality kinda sucks, I have really expensive ones – Isabella Oliver, Rosie Pope, Pea in the Pod and really cheap ones Motherhood, Ann Taylor Loft and none of them seem to not stretch out in the butt over the course of the day. I look like I’m wearing a diaper. I hope that helps, best wishes!

Looks like I’m sashaying myself to the nearest maternity section to try on some maternity jeans at least! My work pants are still alright so I’m going to hang on to them for as long as I can.
@Foreverblonde345: How do you use the belly band for working out? I’m struggling to get my butt to the gym thanks to some wicked exhaustion and morning sickness but do you recommend any other clothing or options for workout clothing? My sports bras are starting to get waay too tight.
