- Wedding: June 2011
Okay I am SO ahead of myself but I am so excited about this. My fiance is Brazilian and I’ve been trying to find ways to incorporate Brazilain wedding traditions into our American wedding. Well, I came across this tradition for the favors. Bem casados in Portuguese mean (roughly) “good marriage”. The are two soft sponge-like cake stuck together with dolce de leche and are wrapped in beautiful paper and bows like little presents. The significance of the cookie is that it’s 2 parts that are sealed through complicity and mutual respect. Each guest gets a gift to have lots of luck and happiness in this union. Tradition says that anyone who tastes the cookies will enjoy the same luck and happiness as the newlyweds, all that is needed is a wish before the first bite! Here’s what they look like: http://www.kitchencorners.com/2008/12/bem-casado.html and here they are all wrapped up http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs548.snc3/30000_115834438449899_115813305118679_130169_503416_n.jpg
I love this idea and I definitely think I’m going to do this. I’m hoping to make them myself, but we’ll see how stressed I am come closer to June. I just can’t wait to have his family Brazil see the incorporation of their traditions with my family’s.
I think we’ll also be having the Groom and Groomsmen wear a small Brazilian flag instead of a flower, as is tradition there. Okay sorry for the length, I just got really excited!
