We’re hoping to take a week of vacation for our one year anniversary this summer. We’ve never done the all-inclusive thing or the cruise thing, so we’re open to either. I’m getting a little overwhelmed with all of the options, though. It looks like Cancun may be our best bet because the plane tickets are the cheapest and it’s the shortest travel time. We’re open to all suggestions on location, though! I’ve looked at Hyatt Zilara Cancun (formerly The Royal Cancun), Sun Palace Cancun, and Excellence Playa Mujeres, but I’d love to do more of the small/boutique feel if we could afford it.
We’d prefer adults only/as few children as possible (so no Disney cruises, haha). I’m willing to spend up to ~500 for a room per night at an all inclusive resort or ~2k per person on a week-long cruise (budgeting for drinks, etc).
Any suggestions from all of you intrepid travelers?

Cruises are fuuuun! It’s definitely a great way for y’all to get out the usual comfort zone lol. It’s very affordable too! We once stayed at one of the palace resorts in Cancun… it was AWESOME they always have a lot of games for couples and there’s so much to do around! Lots of clubs, shopping, drinking, and I think they have their own water park. It’s better than the cruise for sure, but of course more expensive. Either way you go, I doubt y’all will be disappointed.

I’d say nix the SunPalace! I worked in Cancun for a summer and stayed at the Sun, Moon and what used to be the Aventura Palace. The Sun’s location is very good but the pool is tiny and there ARE lots of kids running around. Mmmm bc you mentioned a smaller, more boutique type of hotel and you’re willing to go to the Mayan Riviera have you looked into what used to be the Xpu-Ha Palace? Lemme look up the current name? (Shhh…maybe…I did work for the Palace Resorts…) I can’t find it right now but I’m betting if you look up Xpu Ha hotels you could find it. It used to be a natural ecological reserve (Xcaret type) so it was pretty cool!

We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya last year for our honeymoon. It was a GREAT resort but definitely not small.
I’ve also been on a few cruises with Royal Caribbean that I really enjoyed. Although Celebrity might give you more of the feeling you’re looking for.

We are looking into the Hyatt Zilara for our honeymoon. It looks fabulous! Fiance has a Hyatt credit card so we are hoping to use Hyatt points towards our room.
