@FoxyBride14:  I really like my Dyson. When I first got it, I vacuumed with a regular vacuum then the Dyson and it was amazing how much more dirt it removed! I hear the animal one is great too.

I love my Dyson canister. We have the one jsut under the “animal” and it’s amazing. We have a very hairy dog and this thing is a champ!

PS, the “animal” on the Dyson Animal is about the machine being an animal, not about the user having a pet.

ETA: our previous canister was a Kenmore, and it worked well, though not this well, and required bags which ended up over time costing more than what we saved by getting a Kenmore instead of a Dyson to begin with. The life expenctancy ona Kenmore, we found out from a vaccuum repairman once ours broke, is about 2-3 years. He told us we were lucky to get almost 4 out of ours.

I actually just got a new vacuum–a Shark Navigator. My husband and I bought it on Black Friday. When I took it out of the box I was upset at how small it was (and incredibly light), but I plugged it in and vacuumed my floors and was both disgusted and happy with how much dust it picked up (even after JUST vacuuming my floors the day before!) I am really really impressed with it!

In response to the Dyson recommendation, I will throw out my own personal experiences with Dyson. The vacuums are entirely too expensive. You can buy a better vacuum for a much cheaper price! I own a bed and breakfast as well as a retail store and when I bought the businesses, I invested in two Dyson vacuums. They were top of the line and I thought they would last for at LEAST 7 years! Well, two years later, I have had to upgrade. Those things have terrible suction, they’re bulky, the attachments are ridiculous and the beater brush does not lift up carpet at all. Save your money. The new Shark Navigator I got Maas a much better deal and after running it over the floors in the B&B, they look so much better!!!

+1 for Shark Navigator.

We got one last year through a Black Friday deal, and I’ve been super pleased with it. Between me, Fiance, and our dog, all of the black hair and fur being shed on a daily basis is enough to stuff a small pillow! That plus keeping the windows open as much as possible means lots of vacuuming. That little sucker always makes the carpet look almost brand new.

I got the Dyson “Animal” as an early wedding gift, and I love, love, love it.

It isn’t too heavy, it’s extremely easy to maneuver, and most of all, it gets the carpets CLEAN.

If it can get my cat’s black fuzzy hairs out of the carpet, and my Jack Russell Terrier’s white hair (which sticks to everything) out, then it can take care of whatever you’ve got going on. XD

@HisMoon:  Your pillow comment made me giggle! I thought the same thing! I can’t believe how much dust it picked up! Yay for us and our good vacuums!

@FoxyBride14:  Shark does make some cannister vacuums that have awesome reviews! I’d look into them as the technology would be the same!

My mom and I both have Miele vacuums. I don’t know which one she has, it’s one of the lower end (~$500 range) ones. I have the upright, because it’s the pet hair one. Takes up more space (and I’d prefer a canister) but they’re fab. And QUIET. My mom has had hers for at least 10 years now, still runs great!

I’m in love with our Dyson. It’s the best vacuum I’ve ever had and I’ve got a dog that sheds like crazy. Works great on pet hair.
