I was engaged for almost 3 years and I went to every possible event! My favorite was the Out of The Box Bridal event. It was big enough to be interesting but small enough to be personal. Blue Plate Catering also does several nice events each year, and those have good vendors if you are looking for very high end stuff.

I was only in Chicago for 9 months while I was engaged (and I was travelling for a project for half of it), but my favorites were the Chicago History Museum Wedding Show (Blue Plate did that one, as did Artisan Events)- even looking at the photos you can see where inspiration might come from- and Pampered Bride Chicago – I got a free hair and makeup trial as a bride, but because there were other brides there getting the same thing from other stylists, I also saw what other possible stylists might be able to do for me, which was useful to me since I was looking for both. There was also a presentation given by a wedding planner who handed out seating chart templates at the end after giving us her top 10 FAQ list of wedding planning.

I generally don’t like the ones done at hotels (for instance, I went to one at the James Hotel which didn’t net me anything… well, I guess I got to try delicious cheesecake lollipops) because once you have a venue, seeing the hotel isn’t that much value. But, if you and your bridesmaids can all go, it might be fun just to celebrate being part of the wedding process!
