I know this is the waiting board, and no, my story doesn’t end with engagement. But, it is the sweetest thing my SO has every done for me!
After work, he came over to my house. He told me we were going out, but what I was wearing (comfy sweater and jeans, ponytail) was fine. When he opened the car door, I noticed the lights didn’t come on in his car like they should. I asked if they were broken, he said no, it was a surprise.
So, he then drove me to “our spot.” This is a place down a dirt road where we’ve stopped many times to star gaze or just chill out. After he stopped the car, he came to my side, opened my door (still no lights on in the car…mind you, it is dark) and instructed me to keep my eyes closed. He led me to the back of the car and told me to open my eyes…
SO had filled the back of his Subaru with blankets and pillows. He had my favorite takeout, a bottle of champagne, and his laptop. On it, he was playing the movie we watched on our first date almost three years ago.
We ate dinner, drank champagne, fed each other dessert, and watched the movie until the laptop battery died. Then, I read out loud to him from the book we are reading. By this time, a light rain was falling. He turned on his radio to some Norah Jones, and we slow danced in the field off the dirt road in the rain. After that, we snuggled in the blankets in the back seat and just listened to the music and the rain on the roof of the car (anyone who has a Subaru knows this is the equivalent of the beautiful rain sound on a tin roof).
Although I thought a couple times this was the perfect time for a proposal, just being with my love made it the perfect night, without a ring. I just wanted to share this story to all the waiting bees. I KNOW it’s hard to wait, trust me, but love the time spent with your love now. I’m sure it will be worth it in the end.
