They’re a bit crass, but Forgetting Sarah Marshall or I Love You Man are good choices, because they’re enjoyed equally by men and women.

ETA: Just noticed the poll… my vote is Casablanca. Sleepless in Seattle would be good, too. Most men I know can’t stand The Notebook, though.

@reginaphalange: I Love You, Man is exactly what I thought of too. It’s not a straight up romantic movie but my FH and I both really enjoyed it.

But… this prize will be going to an older couple, right? The anniversary dance is where the longest married couple is that last one standing, yes? So, maybe the Notebook is best.

An anniversary dance prize? I’m not sure how old your oldest couple is but mine will be in their upper 80s and most couples that “win” usually are… and they [my “winners”] can’t eat or drink any of that, and I highly doubt they’d care for any of those movies… you can probably figure out ahead of time who will get the anniversary dance prize and make it particular to them. If you’re doing other prizes for other things, I vote the Princess Bride like a PP 🙂 I don’t like sappy chick flicks and most guys don’t either.

@Mrs.DBee: Whoops, yes. My grandma would NOT be happy with I Love You Man. Then again, I think The Notebook could be super depressing for older people.

Given the potential age of the recipients, I think Casablanca or Sleepless in Seattle would be best.

@galloway111: Agreed. And my Fiance, when we watch date night movies, prefers something funny as opposed to romantic. We actually both enjoyed “No Strings Attached” But as a gift for a younger crowd.

@reginaphalange: Actually, yeah, I hear you about The Notebook. I though since it’s about an older couple it would be sweet. But, that’s coming from the perspective of a 20-something. I’d say you’re right, Casablanca or Sleepless in Seattle.

Well, I vote for the Princess Bride but I already voted other… just to note that your poll will be a bit skewed.

Your contenders are a bit younger so they might enjoy it. My contenders will be much much older and aren’t able to eat those. I still think something less “chick flick” ish would be better, as men don’t tend to enjoy those.

ETA: Although… thinking about it, you could still figure out ahead of time who the winner will be and tailor the prize specifically to them, I think that would be much more sentimental and meaningful.
