So I just got engaged and we are like 95% committed to having a destination wedding in spring/summer 2014. I am looking for some advice for the best destination wedding locations and venues. Any help would be appreciated….here are my requirements:
– All inclusive
– Nice resort that is not extraordinarily expensive
– Wedding coordinator or package deal which would make planning smooth
– Kid friendly (only for the children in the wedding — other than that the wedding would be adults only)

There are TONS on the Riviera Maya. You can check them out and sort by price at cheapcarribean.com or bookit.com

@Lily_of_the_valley: I suggest the US Virgin Islands! Its still US and people don’t have to have passports (just in case some don’t) Also cell phones work there, US money, etc….makes things easier!
We got married in St Thomas and loved it!We got married at Sugar Bay….all inclusive but it was kinda pricey. They have a wedding package but there are a lot of upcharges! Also they have wedding coordinators but it did take a lot of tome for them to answer emails but really once we got there everything went really smooth!
You might want to check out also the Mariott Frenchmens reef in St Thomas….its gorgeous there as well!

@weddingbound: after seeing your wedding I am really considering the USVI! I was looking into the Marriot. Can you PM about pricing for wedding?

@chica_b: ok thanks for the info Have you been to that resort before?

@Lily_of_the_valley: My wedding wasn’t at Marriot so I’m not sure about their pricing.
The room rates at sugar bay for the all inclusive are about 400 per night. Sugar Bay has 3 different wedding packages. We chose the top package but we brought in our own video and photographer which we had to pay extra for b/c I didn’t like who sugar bay uses ( I didn’t realize that part til too late) It actually wound up being a bit of a pain for that reason.
Marriot uses blue glass and high def vi in their package so I would def check into them….if you use sugar bay where I got married you might not be happy with who they use in their contract. I felt that who they have in their contract just wasn’t on the same level as some of the other work out there I had seen.
Don’t get me wrong sugar bay is great you just have to be take who they give you or book on your own which is a seperate fee!
Also just keep in mind that even thou a resort is all inclusive that doesn’t apply to your reception b/c that is considered a private function. My reception was another entire fee….it really adds up! We had 22-24 people and the reception was approx another 60.00 per person on top of the package not including up fees for bouquet, cake, chair covers, steel drum band, I could go on and on…..LOL. Also appetizers were another 500 or so plus the cost of a few bottles of wine.
We orginally thought a Destination Wedding wouldn’t be too bad b/c of the packages many resorts offer but there are lots of “additonal” fees that really start to add up!
If you have any other questions let me know…I’d be glad to help!

@weddingbound: yah! I’m just finding out about the hidden costs now! We are considering the Hard Rock in Punta Cana as well because they seem to cover most everything except DJ/entertainment

@Lily_of_the_valley: Yes I really urge you to dig deep and find out all hidden cost b/c once I signed the contract I soon realized that there were soooooo many extras that were never mentioned! How many people are you having? We had 24 and I felt like I was planning for 100…..it really was a lot of work trying to do it from a far but totally worth it in the end!

Hey! I was married last month at the Bran Bahia Esmerlda. It was amazing. Upon arrival we were all upgraded to beautiful rooms. I was also worried about hidden costs (we got there and it cost to have mix drinks served at the reception….at an all-inclusive?) it was like $10/person/hour. But the servers there dont care….and brang everyone everything the wanted. Only extra cost was renting a private room. The ceremony on the beach was beautiful. Cake and flowers were beautiful and they willmae anything you want. Price was about $1400 person/week. Service all week was amzing….especially the day of the wedding. We drank expensive champagne all week (MOETabout $70bottle where i live). I can send pics or more info if you are interested.
Also there was 1 other wedding the day were married. I walkeddown the beach and some places were having 10+ some 2 at a time just down the beach from each other. They made everything very personal.

@nibbler: Hi there! Sounds like you had a fantastic wedding…CONGRATS!! I’d seen that you might have worn the Mikaella 1661 dress, and was wondering if you were interested in selling it? It’s SO hard to find and I’d be willing to buy it if that were something you’d consider! Thanks 🙂
