I’m 5’3″ and pear shaped – fit and flare is what I ended up with, although it didn’t flare out massively.  But try everything on!  You won’t know what works (or doesn’t!) until you try it.  Ballgowns made me look like a cake topper…

I’m 5’1 110 pounds and I was convinced that I’d go with something fitted. I initially decided I wouldn’t even try on ball gowns or A-line because I thought they’d overwhelm me. Then I saw the dress that I ended up choosing and knew I’d have to try it on even though it didn’t fit into my idea of what I thought I should wear. My advice is to try on everything, even if you don’t like how it looks on the hanger.

I’m wearing a basque waisted a-line gown πŸ™‚ I’m 5″2 and I find it slimming and beautiful

This is my gown PRE alterations. I’m changing the sleeves (they’re going to be about half the width and fully beaded), hemming it, shortening the train, adding a bustle, getting cups sewn in and new boning etc etc but you get the general idea.

In this pic I’m 5″2 and weighed 160 pounds then, you’ll see I don’t really look fat even though I was pretty damn chubs specially for my height… I’m 140 now so doing good πŸ™‚

And with my dad – it’s a slightly better shot of the shape of my dress.

Excuse my face, my mom is a terrible photographer. πŸ˜‚

I’m 5’2 with a straight body type and no curves. Like everyone else, I think the best way to find out what is flattering on you is to try different dress styles. I went with an A-line because it was the most comfortable style for me. Keep in mind some A-lines are fuller than others depending on the material. Here are some examples:

You have plenty of time. Try on everything. Are you really going to discount a certain type of dress because some random person on the internet said “ball gowns don’t look good on petite brides”? Becuase what if you try on a ball gown and you love it? Try on everything.
