Hi all!
I could use some advice on what the best silhouettes are for bridesmaid dresses based on my couple of needs.
Basically, all of my bridesmaids are under 5’6” and range from heavy to thin-pear-shaped. I’m tall and have a boyish figure, so I’m not used to shopping for people with hips!
My dress is modern-formal with no train, some pleating and a v-neck. I want dresses that are a little formal but not like ball gowns. The wedding is outside. The dresses will be gray.
And I love my BMs, so I want them to look and feel fabulous. Any thoughts on a good silhouette?

I think a dress with an empire waist and a fuller skirt can flatter a range of figures. Something like this is cute – I really like the pleating:

I am going through the same thing right now. I want all my BM’s to be happy and comfortable, so I asked them to look online for ideas and they have been emailing them to me. I haven’t picked colors yet but am open to my Maid/Matron of Honor and BM’s for suggestions. I know from what they have been sending me almost all of them are going for an A-Line skirt. Maybe you should ask your BM’s to start sending you ideas and you can let them know what sort of look you are going for and vise versa?

My girls are all around the same size, but they vary a lot as far as body types. I chose 2 Vineyard dresses- a strapless and a v-neck- and gave the girls the option of picking one. I think they are very flattering with the cut and length. Everyone seemed to really like them- I was told they are the best bridesmaid dresses they have had to buy!

They have a ton of bridesmaid dresses to choose from at Alfred Angelo ranging in all sizes including plus sizes. I’ve seen many wedding where the bride lets the bridemaid choose out their own dress as long as it’s in the same color as the other bridesmaid dresses.
Black is really slimming as well and it’s something they could wear all the time. I just suggest that you go to Alfred Angelo and have the girls try on a number of dresses.
