CakeSniffer: the Lorac primer is better than the Urban Decay primer. The best I’ve found is Nars.
CakeSniffer: the Lorac primer is better than the Urban Decay primer. The best I’ve found is Nars.
I have all the Naked palettes, but for my wedding I used the Naked Basics 2. I love matte shadows and I like how it turned out.
I used the original naked palette on a few of my bridesmaids and I don’t think it looked bad in photos.
CakeSniffer: I’m seconding the Nars primer. Love that shit.
For my makeup I used Tarte’s tartelette amazonian clay matte eye shadow palette. Unfortunately there isn’t a single shimmery colour in this palette but it worked for me because I didn’t want any shimmer. You could always buy a single shimmery shadow to complement it.
I used the original Naked palette! I’m very fair with red hair and green eyes. I used Virgin on the inside, Naked over most of the lid, Buck in the crease, and Smog/Darkhorse in the outer edge crease. Only the last two are shimmery and I think it photographed well. I felt like I was wearing a TON of makeup in person, but the pro photos don’t translate that way at all!
I really wish I had gotten better false lashes, or even lash extensions. The corner of mine started to lift in the evening and I was a little too tipsy to get it exactly right again. I might have been the only one who noticed, though!
For some reason it wouldn’t let me add my second photo, but here’s another picture where you can see my makeup.
Don’t avoid the shimmery shades, just don’t go overboard or cross over into glittry territory. Bridal makeup is all about looking fresh and glowy and lit from within – all of which are virtually impossible to accomplish without some shimmer in your highlights. The key is to keep your darker shades matte for a more natural, balanced look.
Any and all Naked palettes are great for bridal – and they’re pretty much all you need for everyday life as well!
ohnoitslindsay: Oh good. That’s reassuring. Although I guess that means I’ll have to rethink my makeup plan. Guess this option’s a no go:
Thank you, everyone! I just added the Naked palette to my Christmas wishlist. It’s a long shot but maybe a Christmas miracle will happen and someone will get it for me. If not, I’ll consider it part of the wedding budget and will take it out of wedding savings. That’ll help make the price tag less painful!
CakeSniffer: You won’t regret it! I’m usually more of a drugstore makeup person, but I’ve used my Naked palette almost daily for over a year now and it’s still going strong so the price per wear makes it seem way more affordable.
CakeSniffer: I am also fair skinned with blue / grey eyes and brown hair – although I am growing out some old highlights so it’s kinda multitonal at the moment! I’ve had one makeup trial so far at MAC which I really liked… Take a look at my previous post if you’d like to see!
I was tempted to splurge on the MAC warm eyeshadow palette, but decided to try the Smashbox Full Exposure eyeshadow palette instead as it was cheaper. It has a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades, and I think it’d be quite easy to recreate my MAC look using it. I have used the Naked I palette in the past – I much prefer it over Naked II and III!
DGN85: Thank you! Even though you just confused me even more and made me want to buy all of the eyeshadows mentioned. 😛 I checked out your previous post and your makeup trial looked great! I just wish that MAC stuff were cheaper.
CakeSniffer: Haha whoops, sorry! Totally didn’t mean to confuse you! I wish MAC was cheaper too – so I always try and find dupes where I can! 🙂
I did my own make-up and used Too Faced Matte and Boudoir. I think it looked great!
Yup yup I also have the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette (the first one). If you’re able to get to a Sephora, if they have it in stock, get the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette. I just bought it. Really pigmented. All matte shadows.

I heard about it from an Australian makeup artist on Youtube. She’s done a bridal look using the palette too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pEDUnV1Sk4
Kacie209 : I know this post is from months ago, but I think your makeup looks great! Any chance you remember which shades from the Naked 2 palette you used?
MRSsrm85 : Wow for all the pics. I’ve never heard of the naked palette and I think I need to get that!! 🙂
