this question is twofold!
first off, do you ladies have a mutual best friend relationship? i hear so many of my friends saying things like, “well, i’m HER best friend but she isn’t MINE… so & so is actually my BF…” is this common?
secondly, is the term “best friend” outdated? i had BFFs in middle/high school but i don’t know that i have one now! anyone else?

Oh I had one, for 6 years. We were honestly best freinds, there was something different about our relationship vs, our relationship with other girls. Unfortunetly, our friendship ended late last year 🙁 Now I have a group of friends, none of them I consider my best friend. Now I consider my fiance my best friend. He listens to everything about me, helps me pick out clothes, lets me cry on his shoulder, etc.

All through high school I had a best friend and I wasn’t her best friend. But now another girlfriend and I are best friends mutually (I’m pretty sure!).
Honestly though, Mr.Ginger is actually my best friend.

Other than my Fiance who is my bestest best friend, my girlfriend best friend has held that title for about 11 or 12 years and I do believe I am her best friend as well. 🙂

I had “best friends” up until 4 months ago. One of my friends had a baby 2 years ago and doesn’t really talk to me anymore, except when she needs a babysitter or someone to run an errand for her. Another got mad at me because I didn’t like her boyfriend (because he’s always in jail for fighting and drugs mind you) so she told my last friend all sorts of horrible things I had supposedly said and they no longer speaks to me.
Now, I have no one but FH.
Well that sounds depressing : /

I have a person I CALL bestfriend, but I doubt we REALLY are… we’re just great friends nothing less. I’ve outgrown and misuse the term all the time. I don’t really care. Friends are all I need and I have some.

I had best friends but not anymore. I had a friend that used to call me “one of” her best friends unless we were arguing and then I was “her BEST” friend…. drove me mad.
Honestly, I count my mother and Fiance as my best friends. They’re the only two people who are always there for me and I know they count me as the same.

At my birthday party last year, apparently an old friend of mine who I used to be super close to but we kinda have grown apart lately told another friend of mine that I’m her best friend but she’s knows that she’s not my best friend. It struck me as sort of, sad.

My best friend is actually a gay man and he refers to himself as my “Gusband” (gay husband)! 🙂 We are eachothers bestfriends and neither one of us really considers anyone else as close as we are (outside of our respective SOs) …even though he is the biggest damn social butterfly I have ever met! We use the term bestfriend or “Gusband and Wife.” Luckily my Fiance absolutely loves him and he absolutely loves my Fiance, we double date with him and his boyfriend all the time!

I think it’s very sad. It’s like “that person doesnt feel i’m special enough to be their best friend” It’s awful and if you are the other person it’s not just sad but awkward. What do you say to that?
