Hey bees! I’m looking to furnish my new home, and I feel like I just keep going back to Ikea. I’m ready to grow up a bit and venture into real furniture stores…. but I’ve never done it, so thoughts on a good store?
If you’re in the DMV, I’d love non-chain recommendations too!

We only go to Weekends Only. Best prices and good quality, they don’t have like high end furniture but for a 20 & 21 year old in our starter house it works for us!

My very favorite is CB2! It’s the more modern version of Crate and Barrel. We have several pices by them (along with some awesome kitchen stuff) and it is amazingly well made!

@crayfish: Ooh nice! For some reason I always think that’s the kids version of C&B – thanks for making me realize I’m missing an awesome stoer! 🙂

West Elm, definitely.
Whatever you do, don’t go to Ashley. They are a total rip-off.

Restoration Hardware – http://www.RestorationHardware.com – pricey but gorgeous!!

I feel like West Elm is exactly the same as IKEA with a higher price tag.
The Room Place is pretty decent on quality and price.

For a chain? Room and Board. Better construction and materials than most chains, imho

We got our living room set on a monster sale at Ashley. It’s almost 2 years old and is still holding up like new. I think the only thing I didn’t like is the area rug, very cheapy and the corners are curling, but it was part of the set and we didn’t really care about the rug anyway. Their regular prices are pretty bad, but occasionaly there’s some sort of blowout and they have good selections for reasonable prices.

@lilcafe: Yes! I love ROom and Board! We got our coffee table there, and it’s holding up wonderfully!
West Elm is higher quality than IKEA, especially upholstered items.

We’ve had great luck with Taft Furniture—they carry a nice range of price points and we are very happy with our recliner and bedroom set!!

We really like Bassett… pricey, but everything is so nice and durable!
