So I’ve decided to grow out my pixie cut. I’ve done this twice before (my life seems to be a constant cycle of pixie –> grow it out –> pixie –> grow it out) and both times, I had to rely heavily on heat styling to get my hair to look reasonable in the in-between stages. But because of this, both times, by the time my hair got long to where I wanted it (usually around armpit length) the bottom 4-5 inches were SO damaged and gross that I had to continue the aggressive heat styling to get it to even be worth having long hair. And both times, this is what pushed me to cut it to a pixie again.
So I’m trying to avoid that vicious cycle this time. I know I’m going to need heat styling to help me out with the awkward in-betweens but I really want to keep my hair healthy this time. I’m going to go to Lush tomorrow and get some conditioner (I already use their cinnamon shampoo which is supposed to help with hair strength/thickness), but what I really need is suggestions on heat protectant creams. I know you’re supposed to use them when you heat style, but I’ve never had one before. I don’t even know where to start! Every time I browse the hair product aisles at Ulta I feel overwhelmed!
So bees, what is your favorite heat protectant product for your hair?

@Kant: I use morrocan oil in my hair after every wash and a keratin cream for when I flat iron. I almost never have split ends or anything so I think it works really well!

Aw, I was really hoping more people would respond to this. I have a good heat protectant but it’s only sold at a local salon :-/ but its completely too expensive so I was hoping to find out some good alternatives to what I have been using.

I like Paul Mitchell super skinny. It works really well and it’s not horribly expensive.

I use CHI hair serum. I use a dime size amount on my hair right before i blow it out. I love it because It makes my hair really smooth and shiny.

Best I have ever used is the Karmin Spray Heat Protector.

Kant : I always use Morraccan Argan Oil, whether I heat style or not. Then, when I heat style, I also add in DryBar Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Cream. It’s on the pricey side, but seriously the best (and cruelty free)!
