I worked at the rec center at one college I went to. I was a resident assistant as well. Then I worked in medical billing. That was a kick ass job.

I was a part-time office assistant at my school’s MBA program office. I scheduled meetings, helped with events, answered the phone, etc – basically your normal assistant duties. It was pretty low key, and I liked that I never had to work nights or weekends (office always closed at 5pm on the dot!). And it was great getting experience working in an office environment before I graduated.

I highly suggest getting a job that is at least somewhat related to the field you want to get into when you graduate if you can.  It looks fantastic if you can show that you already have relevant work experience by the time you graduate.

I worked at my school’s writing center and it was the most amazing job ever.  I was able to work one on one with with students who brought in writing assignment for their classes.  It was very low key and rewarding with great hours and flexibility.  By the time I graduated I was working in the open lab and also leading small group tutorials for ESL and English 101 students.  So much fun!

My brother and sister graduated in the sciences and they were able to work in the same lab.  They started out as dishwashers but were able to move up to doing real research by the time they graduated.

Nannying for a rich family. The kids were older so I basically would just do my homework and eat their food while making sure they didn’t kill each other.

Nannying for a rich family in the summer for sure.

During the school year, it was being a Residence Advisor. Covered my rooming costs.

govt intern. i set my schedule up at the beginning for the minimum i could do (and then when i was available, i worked extra), used it as a basis for school projects, made more than at previous jobs, was allowed to do homework at work a lot of the times, and supervisors were fighting to hire me at the end of it :]

I’ve had a lot of good ones –

Research assistant for professors – usually pays pretty well and good for your resume/when you’re looking for full-time job.

Tutoring – this was my favorite. I got paid a LOT, and I love working with people, so it was really fun. Very rewarding to see people improve after you’ve worked with them!

Teaching Assistant – office hours once a week, grade tests, etc.

My brother and his gf worked as computer lab monitors and loved it – get paid for sitting there and doing your work (or going online)

Waiting tables/bartending. You have cash in your pocket every time you work and can make fantastic money depending on where you are working.

I was a tour guide at my college. Wage was decent and you couldn’t beat the location.

I worked a few jobs, and the best by far was working in a photo developing lab. Some days when work is really frustrating I find myself fantasizing about working there again, lol

My favorite job was lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons.  I did it all through high school and college.

I worked at a call centre; being on the phones was awful, but I was promoted to a couple of different data entry type positions during my time there, and those were great.  Low stress, ok pay, I could chat with my co-workers a lot.  Data entry can be a bit boring, but is wonderful with good co-workers!
