@cherryblossomlove: I worked at a beauty boutique for 5 years and got to try a lot of make up. Bare essentials was never cakey to me, but I have tried cheaper drug store versions that were cakey. I also alternate between Smashbox liquid foundation which I like if I don’t want powder and they also have a mineral powder that isn’t as messy called halo but thats pricy.  You can always go in someone that sells it with no make up and they can give you a clean brush and you can try testers. It doesn’t feel like your wearing make up at all which is why ever since I used it I can’t switch cuz I hate the feel of other make up.

Smashbox’s primer is amazing and I love their concealer. I also love their Halo Hydrating powder. I would use their foundation too but it doesn’t come in the right colour. Instead I use Paula Dorf’s Oil Free foundation.

I used Bare Minerals for years but switched to Pur Minerals. The powder seems finer and stays better on my face! I recommend Studio Gears concealer to use on your smaller inperfections.

One important thing that helps my face not look cakey is mosturizing before I do anything else. I use a pretty basic Loreal Paris primer but next time I buy makeup I wanna try either the Smashbox or Hourglass Veil Primer. I’ve been using Makeup Forever HD foundation, it works amazingly well for me, and I’ve heard the setting powder they sell with it is amazing. I started using that foundation because I get very red angry breakouts still, and this video amazed me:

@cherryblossomlove: I know, I couldn’t believe it the first time I saw it! Obviously your skin doesn’t need that much help but it’s still a pretty crazy video.

@cherryblossomlove: If you have yellow undertones definitely check out the Smashbox HD foundation.

Mineral makeup works, but “mineral” actually just means mineral oil from the earth… Like what cars run off of. Clinique is good; they allergy test on humans and are generally great for everyone. I love MAC too, although they are transitioning to mineral makeup as well.

I guess my bottom line is that everyone has different skin and you need to find something that’s right for you. A lot of makeup counters will do trials or consultations for free if you buy a certain amount of product. Try a couple and see if you find anything you love.
