I realize these days there is really no “normal” way to get married and we can pretty much do whatever makes us happy. But, I’m wondering if anyone else has done a City Hall wedding and still had a best man and maid of honor? If so, what did they do? Hold your flowers/rings? I plan to have a bouquet, so I was thinking my sister (maid of honor) could hold it while we exchange rings, and the best man could hold those? I guess, I’m worried about asking my sister to be my maid of honor if we don’t involve them in the ceremony, apart from attending.
We plan to do HH with the guests that are invited to the ceremony (14 total) after the ceremony, then the following day we are hosting a cocktail reception at a restaurant for the rest of our friends and family. Neither of us really plan on having bachelorette/bachelor parties, I don’t think I want a bridal shower either, so this would be the only way to really involve my sister as maid of honor.
Any ideas, suggestions, advice would be appreciated 🙂

I have seen some courthouse weddings with a best man and maid of honor. You can have them hold the rings and flowers as you described. In my state, you need 2 witnesses to sign your papers anyway so might as well be the two of them as well.

In my state you need two witnesses to sign the certificate, so that could be what they do.

I got married at City Hall this January. We only had our parents and my sister in attendance. DH’s siblings live out of town and we didn’t want them to have to fuss or travel so we just celebrated with them when we eventually saw them. Darling Husband and I each picked a witness. I chose my sister to be witness/maid of honor. Darling Husband chose his father to be the other witness. My sister held my bouquet and our rings during the ceremony. She was the only “bridal party” person and wore a dress that we picked out together. Darling Husband did not want to choose between his two brothers and many friends who he has been best man for to be his best man so we opted to just have my sis as maid of honor and it worked wonderfully.
Congratulations and I hope your special day is wonderful! 🙂
We loved our decision to get married at City Hall and keep it small. The day was so special and intimate, and we grateful we were able to spend quality time with our parents who have loved and supported us so much.
