I’m hoping some crafty bees might be able to help me. I’m not the greatest at DIY, but have managed a few easy wedding makes e.g. chair signs. I really want to make a Here Comes The Bride flag for my flower girl to carry. Something like this:
But I’m stuck on what material to use to make the actual flag. I’ve looked at tutorials, item descriptions on Etsy, all sorts, and none of them seem to specify what type of material you need. Obviously I don’t want something that’s just going to go all floppy! Can anyone advise? I figure I need a fairly stiff material, or should I get some cardboard and cover it in cotton or something?
I’m getting a bit upset and frustrated to be totally honest as this seemed like something easy and fun to do but I just can’t figure out the material and feel kind of dumb now. I really don’t want to just order one instead of making it, and would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance.

I am sure what exactly but maybe a card stock type paper, something that doesn’t bend or fold by movement.

I plan to use Cardstock but I am not sure how to attach it to the pole

You can use any thick fabric you want and just spray it with a fabric stiffener. Canvas fabric would work great. Or a nice thick cotton.
As for attatching it to the pole? They sewn it into a tube and then slipped the tube over a pole, but you could do something simpler…like.. roll the flag around the pole and hot glue it into place. Or if you don’t want the same fabric as the flag to wrap around, you coule sew a loop or ribbon at the bottom and top of the flag and slip it on the pole and glue it into place.
Here’s one made of burlap where they’ve rolled it over and sewn it.
Oh! And here’s a whole collection of different kinds.
Don’t feel dumb! if you’ve never done a lot of this stuff, then it’s all still a learning process! And we’re all here to help you!
I’m sure you’ll make something wonderful!
