My fiance proposed in Maui and we’ve decided to return on the 1yr anniversary of our engagement for our wedding! I’m finding that there are so many wedding planners and available packages on the island and it’s all a bit overwhelming! How do I choose the right one? Any advice from current planners or happy newlyweds would be greatly appreciated!
FYI: We’re hoping to do an outdoor wedding, near or on the beach, small and intimate w/20 guests total.

I don’t know about planners, but my husband and I spent our honeymoon on Maui. The beaches in Kihei were our favorite, and there were a few around there that seemed like they might be a little more private. Congratulations!

We are getting married in Makena (south of Wailea on Maui) at Kukahiko Estate. Our party will be about 11 guests (including 5 children/infants). We are using Tropical Maui Weddings- Lori and Jackie are so great and patient (I am very indecisive!). Lori’s hubby Jamie Lawrence will sing at our ceremony and reception, which will be held at Capische restaurant in Waliea. Check them out if you like: http://www.tropicalmauiweddings.com/index.aspx I have a friend on Maui who recommended them, so I didn’t call around to different companies. They are very happy to work with whatever budget! I’m using Cheryl from http://www.mauiweddingcakes.com/ and Darren at http://www.kuolanifloral.com/ Everything to do with planning has been fun and easy so far. A great team of people, I feel, is really important when planning from far away!
Good luck and feel free to PM if you have any questions:)

@randijane: Ok, I did TONS of research on this! I am a Maui June 2013 bride.
I found my wedding planner (well, really day of coordinator since I already had my vendors booked) by coming across her vintage rental company. Her name is Melissa and she owns Opihi Love (http://www.opihilove.com/). I emailed her and she has been wonderful! Super friendly, helpful, and affordable. Plus she has lots of fun stuff to rent, too!
All my vendors are booked…if you have any questions, ask away!

Thanks everyone! We decided to go with Lori at Tropical Maui Weddings – everything has been great so far. We booked Olowalu for a sunset ceremony for our 15 guests and are still looking for a restaurant in Lahaina or nearby for dinner. Can’t wait – only 3 months to go 🙂

@nixietink: Thanks for the information about Opihi Love. Do you know if Melissa offers more than “day of” coordination services?
