My photographer gives discounts from December-February. I saw some give discounts Nov-Mar.

Edit: For the wedding obviously, the month you book does not matter.

It really depends what you are booking for.  Family portraits?  Engagement pictures?

A few photographers in our area do “flash” sessions where they will do a bunch of people (usually familys) at a certain place on a certain day.  They will give each family a half hour to an hour, and they are deeply discounted compared to a whole portrait sitting.

All in all, it has a LOT more to do with how you interact with the photographer rather than any particular time frame… If I get an email that says ‘Hi I want a discount’, I automatically know I’m going to turn them down. Whereas if someone emails me and says ‘I love your work, you’re my favorite, we’re planning an awesome diy outdoor wedding on a farm and we would love to have you there BUT we have a small budget… what can we do to make it work’ I will often either offer them a barebones package that has a lower cost (fewer hours, no products, etc) or waive travel fees or something.

However, to answer your question, the ‘off-months’ are January-April… but these tend to be huge wedding booking seasons since so many people get engaged in the winer, we just don’t do a whole lot of actual shooting during those months.
