i have a What Katie Did corset (the Mae) that works very well for me. I haven’t entirely broken it in yet, but it cinches nicely without being uncomfortable :]

@Evie19: ask away! i’m no pro corset wearer by any means, but I’m happy to share what I’ve learned so far. when you order them, you order it 3-4 inches smaller than your current waist size. the first time you put it on, it should not close all the way (otherwise it’s too big) but once you wear them a couple times, the material will give a bit and the gap will start to close. so the first time, you may get 2 inches of cinch and then by the 2nd or 3rd time you wear it you’re getting the full 3-4 inches. unless you’re getting like a plastic-boned ‘corset’, you’ll want to wear it a few times anyways to get used to it, otherwise you might bruise your ribs or something! but if you want real cinch, just search for steel-boned when you’re comparing different brands :]

yeah i’m just like half an inch shy of the waist/hip ratio recommended for the Morticia, so i went with the Mae. Steel-boned is actually what you want, the boning is what shapes and cinches you, so if you get something too flexible, it’ll just warp and pooch back out. the steel-boning is padded and covered – not any more uncomfortable than the other kinds of boning! the corset keeps your posture as well, but i didn’t sit much in my Mae other than on the edge of my bed – you’ll be sitting straight because it’s not going to let you slump over. breathing was fine for me, i didn’t have it fully cinched (my arms got tired!), but it wasn’t a problem at all, and I had probably 2.5 to 3 inches of cinch at the time.

Holy smokes! Those corsets look amazing! I didn’t know it was possible to get a waist to look like that. Do you have pics of yourself in it? Or is that too intimate. 🙂

no prob! i got an underbust one and wore a strapless bra with it… i’m mega flat though, so I didn’t have much to worry about! the underbust ones are meant to have a bra worn with it, so you can do that, i wouldn’t recommend wearing a bra with an overbust one though. Longer corsets like the Mae do cinch in the hips a bit too, which is very important to me. I have scoliosis and wonky, mismatched hips but it still lays really flat and nicely on them, with no fat squeezing out the bottom or anything lol. it’s just an all around smooth line that’s reasonably comfortable – these are good quality corsets, but you have plenty of time to look around at other brands, so don’t feel like you have to get this one if you see another! if the hips aren’t something you’re worried about, you can get a waspie or something with a shorter length, but with my off-kilter hips that means that one side will usually dig in to my waist, which hurts like hell, so that’s why i prefer the longer ones that help control the hips :]

What’s best is going to depend on your dress too because most corsets will create a bulge someplace too.

I got an industrial strength corset that ended just below the bottom of my bust, and it sent fat that I didn’t even know that I had into my armpits and made my upper back look a little bit sharpei-ish.  I’m not at all heavy either.

I ended up getting the burliest spanx waist-to-knee-length shaper since my dress is bloused  in the waist to hide any above-the-waist pooch.  FWIW, I ordered in my pants size, and it’s as tight as i can stand.
