jewels390 :  any colour you like. I don’t think you should let your ring determine what colour you wear.

Having said that I do think red nails always look nice.

I also have a sapphire e ring.  I usually go red but for the wedding I did one of Essie’s pale neutrals.

I absolutely love dark colours with my sapphire e-ring, I wore dark red for both the proposal (unknowingly) and on my wedding day!

I have a sapphire, though in a lighter, periwinkle shade of blue. I love nude colors like essie’s ballet slipper or dance class (depending on if you’re doing gel or regular polish). I also just tried a brand called cuccio. The color was See it All in Montreal and it’s another nude gel polish.

I also love lavenders and other purples. When my husband proposed, I’d just gotten my nails done in a lavender shade and it looked really good with my skin tone and ring.

I do reds also sometimes but I’d say for your engagement, you might want to go with a lighter color that allows your ring to stand out. Once you’ve got it, then it’s easier to hold a color up to see how it goes with your skin and ring. I know a lot of people don’t concern themselves with whether or not their nail polish matches their ring but I really like when my hands have an all over cohesive look.

Woohoo, what an exciting time for you 🙂

I have a sapphire ring, and have been doing lots of experimenting with nail colours lately.
I never really did my nails before getting engaged but now I am obsessed.

Overall, I have to say the colours that look best are those that compliment my skin tone rather than trying to match the stone. I have been loving pinks and nudes, but I am excited to try more dark colours in autumn.
I also tried bright coral and hot pink and they looked great, as did a deep shimmery burgundy/wine.
A pale lilac-pink didn’t suit my skin so I felt it drew attention away and looked a bit jarring.

I got some great suggestions on this thread… and might update it soon with my own experiments!
