Do you use a high quality top coat? That really makes a difference for me.

itsachickenwingthing :  I use any brand of polish, but always over two coats of OPI’s Nail Envy Original, and finish with Essie’s Good to go.

Zoya, China Glaze and Smith and Cult are the longest lasting I’ve found. Top with a good top coat and you’re set for a while 👌

I seriously need this thread! I am so sick of my home manicures chipping after one day, it drives me nuts. I have personally found Essie to be pretty crap, I’m always surprised to hear it being recommended (on other threads not just this one).

Has anyone tried to do gel nail polish at home? Does it last longer?

I use cheap dollar store nail polish. They can last up to two weeks as long as I put Seche Vite as a top coat. Otherwise, they don’t even last a day. No nail polish does. Firmly in the “quality top coat” camp.

My tip would be OPI Nail Envy, any polish then Seche Vite topcoat.

I recently broke up with acrylics, so I’m back to trying to paint my own (and failing). I tried the Sally Hansen “just like gel” or whatever polish, and it’s supposed to last for two weeks. It didn’t even last 4 hours. I’m so frustrated.

Posting to find new recommendations 😛

Are you willing to try gel polish? Darling Husband got me a led lamp a few years back. Took me some time and practice to get it right but my nails last for 2 weeks.

I love Zoya. Seems to last a bit longer than Esse on my nails.

My fave base coat is Orly Bonder,  it’s kinda rubbery so the polish can adhere well. I also second Seche Vite fast dry topcoat. That’s gonna save your polish because it dries so fast and it self levels.

My nail polish never chips, I usually wear each polish for about a week or so until my nails grow out. I think the keys are a good base coat, quality top coat and strong nails.
