Just wanted to share a fun idea that came to me this morning, and see if any of you Bees also like the idea!
The bar at our venue is very limited and only allows for a couple of beer choices, a couple of wine choices, and one mixed drink. Fiance and I love cranberry/vodkas when we’re not in the beer/wine mood, so that’s what we picked.
Searched my brain for a fun name to call the cranberry/vodka…..well, it’s red…it’s at a wedding….
So when our guests ask for it, they must ask for a “Red Wedding”. Teehee. We’re a couple of dorks. Plus, red is our accent color, so it’s an all-around win!

Love it! So much fun!
It would also be super cool if you could find longsword style swizzle sticks or something decorative and fun to tie the GoT theme in so that the reference is really clear. And it would make the drinks so fun!

On the one hand it’s cool, on the other hand I find myself thinking that the Red Wedding wasn’t really a memorable one for the very bestest of reasons…

I really like GoT but I’m not sure this is such a good idea in execution. Like a PP said, Red Wedding isn’t exactly what you want your wedding remembered for, is it? Kind of like the child I met the other day named Danaerys. Parents thought it was a good idea, kinda cool – poor kid.

Seems morbid to me.
If a guest didn’t pick up the “theme” and asked someone what is meant by “Red Wedding” and someone explains, “Oh, it’s from a huge massacre that was staged during a wedding reception in our favorite tv show. I mean they killed EVERYONE!” … I can imagine that especially the older generation of people would be all like “Why is their wedding masacre themed?”

Wow, I love that idea! Off to Google I go…..
True, but that just makes it that much more entertaining for us!

FutureDrAtkins: Our reception is going to be a pretty nerdy crowd, and the “older” crowd is in their 50s and also watch the show. Just to be sure, I’ll bounce it by the parents and see if they like it.
I realize this would seem really odd at a formal event, but our’s is a pretty unformal one at a (nicer) pizza joint. 60 guests. I’m guessing the only people who would be seriously bothered by it and not just think it’s a funny or weird joke are the people who we didn’t invite anyway.

And if 60 of our closest family and friends don’t know that we’re weird by now….they probably weren’t paying attention.

Haha no worries. We didn’t adhere to the “traditional” wedding stuff either. I just immediately pictured my own grandmother aghast, lol. If you guys think it’s awesome go for it! Are you incorporating GoT in any other ways? I’d love to hear some of your ideas!

laurabora: I think if I saw a drink called “red wedding” at a wedding you would find Fiance and I running around trying not to “get ourselves killed” hand us stirrers that our swords were going to fight with them! (also big GoT Nerds) Seriously I love the idea!
You could also call it “blood of my blood” or “Blood rider”

I think it’s a really cute idea !

Lolol it’s a cute idea but extremely few weddings in the GoT universe turn out well. However, if everyone in your group will get it, I don’t see why you can’t go ahead and do it.
