What about sales at department stores, like Kohls, JCPenney, etc?  It might work if you have a standard color you want them to stick with, or if you let them get patterns.

if you are looking for shorter style dresses you can go to the limited.. they have a nice selection and run sales very often.
A friend of mine ordered all her dresses there and the wedding was fabulous!

@jackndiane:  Good point.  Any chance you could get some swatches of the fabric/color you want them to wear so they can take the swatch to the store with them while they shop for sales?

Try ebay…believe it or not! I found my bridesmaid dresses there for a REAL cheap price and they are prettier than so many other dresses out there.  They’re from a maker in China.  You might want to buy a sample dress first to see how it looks IRL before having your girls spend their money on them.

Alfred Angelo for the win! They have plenty of gowns around the $100 range!

Department stores! My girls wore a dress from Justice of the Peace Penny for $40!

Department store shopping is a bit more tricky (like you mentioned w/ the colors) so I actually found the dress and everyone agreeded & liked it, then they purchased.

Here are their $40 dresses, perfect for my outdoor wedding:

My friend let her BMs choose their own dresses and sent them all shopping with paint chips she swiped from Home Depot 🙂 It helped with shade matching, and she gave some guidelines but they all picked different styles, materials, and brands.

Keep an eye out for discontinued dresses. We got all 6 Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses from David’s Bridal for $59… all in my colors and the girls picked the dresses. =) It did take a little leg work on my part but it paid off!

You can call stores and get these dresses in sizes and colors even if it is not available online. You should get all the sizes and styles you like, then have your local store give you the locations and numbers to where they are available. Call the stores put them on hold. Once your sure you have all the color styles and sizes you need on hold start to call the store back and to pay for them. This process took me all of 1 hours tops. I paid for the dresses and the girls paid me back when they came in. All 6 dresses were delivered within a week. $59 bucks was way less then they thought they would ever spend!

I got mine from JCrew for $60 when they were on sale.  They retailed for almost $200!
